That’s a wrap on the Breton Library School of Magic Summer Reading Club 2026! What a fantastic summer we had with all our wizards. We hit a huge milestone with reading hours this summer a whopping 1412 hours were read by the kids. I think they are prepped for school now teachers! 🤯

We have so many people to thank this year for another successful summer club.

First of all… Michelle Wurban with One Shot Photography for bringing the room to life as a real life magic room. She and I raided our collections and spent a few days creating the room. We would not have such a fantastic background room without her assistance and I am forever grateful for her.

Next up… my staff! Mady is amazing with the kids and works hard to make it memorable for all of them. Thanks to Aila Carstairs and Brianna Penton for being our summer workers this year and helping prep and set up and clean and help when needed. Extra hands have helped tremendously! I’m sure Pam and Lois had many questions as well on their days. Everyone works so good as a team here.

Our board member Pattie Sutherland who always goes above and beyond coming to help anyway she is needed. She even did a storytime one day! Our board chair Kristen Szepesy came the first day with her service dog Ivy and there was lots of pets and love going around. If only we could have a dog everyday! 🐶

Domino’s Pizza in Drayton Valley for an incredible generous discount on our year end pizza. We appreciate it so much and the pizza was delicious.

We also had numerous donations from local business and patrons throughout the summer. I will try to list all that I can but if I have missed you please let me know. The kids were in awe with how many prizes there were and for such successful reading hours they got to do two rounds and it was so well deserved. I’m so proud of all our kiddos!

Book Trailer Tuesdays Juvenile Fiction pick is:

The Ogress and the Orphans by Kelly Barnhill

“When a child goes missing from the Orphan House in the town of Stone-in-the-Glen, the mayor suggests the kindly Ogress is responsible, but the orphans do not believe that and try to make their deluded neighbors see the real villain among them.”

This book has such great reviews and it is added to my TBR list.

Introducing… Book Trailer Tuesday!

This weeks book is Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier. Perfect for fall as it’s set in Seaside Oregon and the best part the mystery unfolds in an amusement park. This is a bit of an older release but it’s captured me quick. I have no clue who the culprit is and what is going on with suspicious disappearance and a murder in the park.

Jennifer’s new release Heart of Glass that came out August 25 is supposed to have hints of Wonderland in it and continues a new story.

Order both books on TRAC or Libby or it’s also available on Kindle Unlimited for subscribers. Also you can always call us at the library and ask us to order it for you.

Tomorrow is our last day of Summer Reading Club 2026! What a fun filled magical summer it has been and it seemed to go in a blink of an eye. Must have been all that magic we were doing! To celebrate all the kids successful reading hours there will be a movie and pizza party and then time to win some of those prizes they have all been waiting for!

See you all tomorrow! We can’t wait to see you and just a note to patrons it will be a very busy day for staff so regular library operations may be affected. Also to our summer kids feel free to bring a small chair or pillow to sit on for the movie!

Fairies and Wizards friends were created today! They all were so unique and all the kids had such amazing ideas for their friend. One even made a pet cat friend for their fairy! Thanks to everyone for coming for our last craft day for SRC! Next Monday is our last day year end party with pizza and a movie! See you then! 🩵

Mondays SRC activity the kids will be able to make Sadie the Summer Fairy or her companion that protects the fairy realm Sam the Wizard! We can’t wait to see all the wizard and fairy creations!
