A message from Central Saanich Police,
Know the rules. Ride safe. Get to school safely! 🚲

School is back in less than a week, and we’re reminding parents and caregivers to know the rules before your child rides an e-bike or electric scooter to school.

⚠️ Not everything with an electric motor is an e-bike — and not everything is legal on our roads. Illegal use can result in fines, charges, impoundment and financial liability for riders and parents.

🏫Schools may have their own rules about bringing e-bikes and e-scooters onto school property. Check with your child’s school before they ride.

There are important differences between legal e-bikes, electric kick scooters, and electric motorcycles/dirt bikes. Take a look at our guide below to find out what’s street legal — and what isn’t.

Know the rules. Ride safe. Get to school safely! 🚲

📚 Does your child’s IEP actually reflect who they are — or does it mostly focus on what they struggle with?

For neurodivergent students, an IEP should be about more than deficits, compliance, and “fixing” behaviours. It should recognize strengths, sensory and regulation needs, barriers to learning, self-advocacy, and the supports a student needs to genuinely access school.

Our newest blog, IEP for Neurodivergent Students in BC: A Parent’s Guide, breaks down how parents can approach the IEP process from a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based perspective.

✨ Inside, we cover:
• What a Competency-Based IEP looks like in BC
• Accommodations that create meaningful access to learning
• Why behaviour should be viewed as communication
• How to create affirming, meaningful IEP goals
• A simple Barrier → Need → Support → Outcome framework you can bring into your next school meeting

If you’re heading into an IEP meeting this school year — or wondering whether your child’s current plan is truly meeting their needs — save this post and read the full guide.
