This past week, our OCN Detachment was honoured to join the UCN Graduation Grand Entry — a beautiful celebration of achievement rooted in culture and tradition.

A Pow Wow was held to mark this milestone in the traditional way, and it was a powerful reminder of what community truly means.

We were also proud to spend time with the University College of the North Law Enforcement graduates; who will help shape the future of Indigenous community safety.

The partnership between MFNPS and UCN holds tremendous promise, and we look forward to a future where more graduates from this community are protecting and serving the communities they call home.

Congratulations to the grads! The future is yours — and it's bright.

The Pas RCMP & MFNPS arrest dangerous driver after pursuit

On May 28, at 6:00 pm, The Pas RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 10, within town limits, who was driving at a high rate of speed.

Officers in the area located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was observed and identified by police.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop for police and continued driving at a high rate of speed. Out of an abundance of caution, the suspect vehicle was not pursued.

The Pas RCMP were then notified by MFNPS officers that they were attempting to stop the same vehicle however the suspect refused to comply with police.

A pursuit was initiated by MFNPS officers as the suspect had now run several vehicles off the road. With the successful deployment of a spike belt, the suspect vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver arrested after a brief struggle. Several MFNPS vehicles were damaged as a result of being struck by the suspect vehicle in her attempt to escape.

The 43-year-old female driver, from The Pas, was turned over to The Pas RCMP where she remains in police custody. She will be remanded into custody on charges including Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Impaired operation of a motor vehicle, Refusal to comply with a breath demand, Uttering threats and Flight from police.

The Pas RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed this erratic driving behaviour to contact the Detachment at 204-627-6204.

Investigation continues.

Our youth from Canupawakpa Dakota Nation go to school at Goulter Elementary in Virden which means that our Community Outreach Liaison occasionally makes the trip to help support youth with timely safety tips.

The school has a great swim program that starts next week, so our Western District Liaison was able to give the students information on how to stay safe in and near the water.
