🚨Built to Take a Beating. Built to Perform.🚨

One of our own Champion Pro ABC extinguishers recently came in for service & what we found was incredible.

This extinguisher had severe cylinder damage, deep scratches & visible damage inside the cylinder. Most people would assume it was done for, having a puncture.

Here’s the surprising part...
Despite all the damage, it was still holding full operating pressure.

Before anyone asks… yes, this extinguisher was condemned & removed from service due to the severity of the cylinder damage.

Damaged extinguishers should NEVER remain in service.

What impressed us was that after taking such a serious hit, it was still holding pressure when it arrived at our shop.

That’s the kind of real-world durability we’ve come to expect from Champion extinguishers.

Lately, we’ve noticed some confusion around certification marks; saying they can’t service certain extinguishers, even though the label clearly shows they are approved for Canada.

Here’s the truth:

UL Listed
For the United States only.
If the extinguisher only has this mark, it must be serviced under U.S. standards.

cULus/ cUL Listed
For BOTH the U.S. and Canada
If you see cULus or cUL, you can service it in Canada
This mark meets BOTH countries’ requirements.

ULC Listed
For Canada only
These extinguishers are fully recognized for Canada servicing.

Misreading these marks leads to unnecessary refusals, failed inspections & frustrated customers.
Understanding the certification label ensures you know exactly which extinguishers you’re allowed to service and where.

If you transport fire extinguishers, suppression cylinders, or nitrogen tanks, TDG training isn’t optional; it’s required by federal law.

And the penalties for getting it wrong are serious:
• Up to $50,000 for a first offence
• $100,000 for subsequent offences
• Up to 2 years in jail under TDG regulations

Employer and employee are both responsible.

At Flame‑Tamer, our cylinder inspection & testing procedures follow the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) standards recognized across Canada through CSA specifications and UN pressurized‑receptacle requirements.

CGA also supports NFPA‑10 Chapter 8, which guides gauge accuracy, readability, and calibration for all low‑pressure extinguisher testing.

CGA standards were developed with cylinder manufacturers to outline requirements for steel and aluminum cylinders, including 3A, 3AA, 3AM, & 3AAM manufacturing processes. These standards define critical inspection criteria such as corrosion limits, pitting allowances, and pre‑filling inspection requirements, ensuring every cylinder meets safety expectations before testing or filling.

For distributors, CGA compliance applies across multiple areas of our work:
🔥CO₂ Cylinder Filling
🔥Pre‑inspection procedures follow CGA C‑6 (steel) and CGA C‑6.1 (aluminum), ensuring cylinders meet all structural and corrosion requirements before filling.
🔥Low‑Pressure Fire Extinguisher Hydrostatic Testing
🔥Testing must comply with CGA C‑1 – Method of Hydrostatic Testing, along with NFPA‑10 Chapter 8 requirements for gauge accuracy (0.05% overall), readability (1% increments), and calibration every six months.
