40 years ago, 2 PI leaders met with a young Brazilian couple, Marcio and Damaris Garcia, who had an extraordinary vision to bring the hope of Jesus to remote fishing villages along Brazil’s vast coastline and into unreached communities.
That meeting led to a partnership with EMAF (Evangelical Mission for Assistance to Fishermen), and by God’s grace, we’ve walked together for 40 years!
What began as a small ministry has grown into a movement of 93 missionaries and more than 1,600 volunteers, sharing the Gospel to remote communities across Brazil and deep into the Amazon.
One recent story captures the impact beautifully:
A young man named Maicon once asked a passing government worker for a Bible. Later, through a “wrong turn” on a river journey, EMAF leaders arrived in his village for the very first time. They engaged Maicon in conversations, and on January 24, 2026, Maicon gave his life to Jesus. Since then, members of his family have also come to faith.
Just one Bible and one seeming wrong turn, and one family has been transformed for Jesus!
They say life begins at 40, so as we celebrate 40 years of partnership with EMAF, we believe this is only the beginning of what God will continue to do through faithful local leaders and communities transformed by the Gospel.
