Working together - it's how we'll continue to get things done, and meet the needs of our entire community.
While we wrap up the last week of campaigning, I feel confident that I have met with many residents, provided information through flyers and mailers, and reached thousands through social media, and while I haven't been able to make it to everyone, I hope everyone has been able to learn something about me. I feel good about the campaign, and although my counterpart in Macaulay Ward has run an outstanding campaign, and also has some great ideas for our community, I hope there are enough supporters out there to help make me your next Town Councillor.
Regardless of the outcome, however, work still needs to continue, and there certainly needs to be a more collaborative approach to municipal politics. Communication will continue to be key, and like I've said before, I hope many Councillors will use my idea of a regular newsletter to their ward residents to keep them abreast of things happening at the council table. Timely and easy to understand information is how we will all have a clear picture of what is happening in our community, and will allow us all to have a voice in how we navigate the short term, the rest of the term of council, and the decades to follow.
I also hope that all the current candidates remain committed to serving their community, and even if they aren't elected this time around, I hope they remain engaged and ensure the elected council serves all of the voters in our town. I know that I plan to remain engaged, regardless of the outcome, and not in the way we consistently see in provincial/federal politics, where slinging negativity and personal jabs are commonplace, but in a way that is collaborative and productive. I may not always agree with everyone on the newly elected council, whether i'm at the table or not, but I will ensure that our community continues to have a voice, and that council continues to have a listening ear.
Thank you to those who have voted, or plan to soon. I hope to represent you at the council table soon, and if not, I hope to still continue being a productive voice for you as we enter the next term of council.
