Bethesda House is grateful for the funding it receives from the Provincial Ministry of Community & Social Services however, it does not cover the full cost of the services required to meet the needs of people dealing with domestic violence in Durham. Donations go a long way to help cover the rest of the costs. The support of the community is greatly appreciated. CHARITABLE REGISTRATION # 14083 - 5802RR001

Not all abuse is physical. It can be controlling behaviour, manipulation, constant criticism, isolation, or making you question your own reality. Over time, these experiences can change how you see yourself and make it harder to recognize what’s happening.

No one deserves to walk on eggshells in their relationship.

Support is available, and there are people who will listen, believe you, and help you take the next step when you’re ready.

There is hope. There is help. You are not alone.

Did you know? 💜

When women and children come to Bethesda House, they don’t have to face their journey alone. Through specialized programming, both mothers and children are able to receive support and take steps towards a brighter future, together.

The logistics of leaving can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help.

Trauma can affect the way we respond to situations, often before we even have time to understand what is happening.

Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn are common trauma responses, not character flaws, overreactions, or something to be ashamed of.

Understanding these responses can help us recognize that what we see on the outside may be connected to experiences someone has carried for a long time.

Learning about trauma is an important part of creating safer, more supportive spaces for survivors. 💜

Behind every story is a person who showed incredible strength in circumstances no one should have to face. Listening without judgment, believing survivors, and taking the time to understand their experiences can make a lasting difference.

At Bethesda House, we want to challenge common misconceptions, build empathy, and remind survivors that they are seen, heard, and supported.

Together, we can create a community where survivors feel safe to ask for help and know they won’t have to face it alone. 💜
