Notice of Construction: Road and Sign Marking Improvements in Snug Cove

Work to improve transit connections and traffic flow in Snug Cove is moving forward, and some temporary changes will be in place near the ferry terminal during construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin the week of September 8, 2026, and be substantially complete by late October 2026. During this time, some parking stalls and pedestrian routes will be temporarily closed or reassigned. Traffic control personnel will be on site to help ensure the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians through the construction area.

The project will improve transit infrastructure and operations in Snug Cove, creating safer, more efficient connections between BC Ferries, public transit, pedestrians, and other road users.

You’re invited to Bowen Island RCMP’s Car Seat Clinic on September 19th, 2026

Bowen Island RCMP is teaming up with the Bowen Island Fire Department and the British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA) on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, from 10AM to 1PM for a free event dedicated to child safety!

Certified technicians will check car seat installations and offer guidance, education and support to help parents and caregivers ensure their child’s car seat is correctly installed and used.

This drive-thru event will be held at the Bowen Island Fire Hall (1045 Miller Road) in the rear parking lot. Each session will take approximately 30 minutes for certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) educators to audit car and booster seat installations while providing guidance, education and free takeaways.

Please bring your car seat manual and have your vehicle manual on hand, along with your child to ensure that the child is properly seated and secured. Tents will be set up and the event will occur rain or shine.

Appointments are recommended but drop in attendees will be accommodated on a first come first serve basis. Appointments can be booked using the following link: slotted.co/RCMP

Did you know? Bowen Island Fire Rescue has team members certified in Technical Rope Rescue at both the Operations and Technician levels. Equipped with specialized gear and training, our crews can respond anywhere on Bowen Island to rescue people from locations where conventional access is impossible and rope systems are the only way in.

Another example of our dedicated team training hard, not just until we get it right but until we no longer know how to get it wrong.

Campfire Ban Rescinded, Fire Danger Rating LOW

The campfire ban has been rescinded effective 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The current Fire Danger Rating on Bowen Island is now LOW.

Campfires and beach fires are once more permitted on both public and private property. A campfire is defined as an open fire used for recreational purposes, such as cooking or warmth, that burns piled material no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide. Only dry, untreated wood may be burned.

Please note that all other Open Burning remains prohibited until October 15.

Residents are asked to use caution when having a campfire and to ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended.
