I have been reading reports that there is a fire at the ethanol plant this morning.
Please avoid the area and let the emergency services do their work.
I am praying that workers were not present when the fire started.

The Chatham ethanol plant is very important to our local agriculture sector. Harvest is approaching and the ethanol plant plays an important part in many farmers corn harvest plans.
I hope the damage is minimal and they will be back running at full capacity very soon.

*** Depth of a Candidate Matters ***

In Chatham-Kent we have no formal lobby to upper levels of government. For Chatham-Kent to reach those important levels, it's up to councilors to make those crucial relationships and find out what's happening in the higher levels of government.

These contacts are important and take time to build.

During my time as President of the Kent Federation of Agriculture, I was very honored to be asked to advocate on behalf of Chatham-Kent and Agriculture at Queens Park.

Participating in an event such as this isn't something that everyone is asked to do - it's a very long and busy day but one that can make connections that could be lasting and valuable going forward.

You're meeting with many MPP’s from across Ontario and from all parties throughout the day.

You have about 30 minutes to make a good impression and talk about your concerns.

I had already met with MP Dave Epp, MPP Trevor Jones as well as MPP Monte McNaughten a few times in my capacity as an executive member of the Kent Federation of Agriculture, primarily to discuss local issues so I felt that I was ready for this day.

Meeting with 10 MPP’s to discuss agriculture and getting to be a champion for Chatham-Kent was an amazing experience, aside from the great feeling of accomplishment, I came away with many new contacts that I feel confident in utilizing in my capacity as a Councilor for Chatham-Kent.

I have maintained and expanded upon the relationships I made that day at Queens Park in addition to contacts I have generated with key players in the Federal government. These relationships are something that I will bring to the table as a resource for the council to draw on.

It's important when considering a candidate for municipal council to take into account their ability to champion local issues to higher levels of government. After all that is where an important part of our annual municipal budget comes from.

Thank you to the Erieau Community Association for hosting a meet and greet for candidates last night. It was a great night and some great questions from the crowd.

Next meet and greet / questions for the candidates is in Ridgetown Wednesday night at the legion 7 pm.

I have been receiving many questions from residents regarding this alleged "secret meeting" that has taken place.

I have not now or have ever taken place in a meeting , secret or public with the intention to discredit or attempt to ruin other candidates in my ward or in the election as a whole.

I have run my campaign focused on myself, my accomplishments and my goals for ward 2 and for the municipality.

I sincerely hope that all of this is just election nonsense and has no merit.

***Chatham Kent hub tendering process -Letter in the newspapers***

When the Chatham Kent Community Hub was being tendered by the past council, a few things really bothered me about the process and the outcome.

During the tendering process, nearly 70 companies throughout Ontario including Chatham-Kent indicated their interest in participating in this project. Without clear rational, our municipal engineering team decided that most of those companies did not meet their qualifications - 6 companies did meet their qualifications and they were based out of Windsor, London and Toronto.

That's problem number 1. Council should have stopped right there and asked all departments including Engineering and Economic Development to get involved. Chatham Kent is home to many larger contractors who should be capable of handling a project of this size and many sub-contractors who could have been directly involved and none of them made the final cut.

Problem number 2- Rory Ring from the Chatham Kent Chamber of Commerce gave a great deputation on this topic and stated that every dollar spent in the community has a 2.78 multiplier of an economic impact. Putting this into perspective, when the current council approved the tender for 52.8million dollars that created an economic impact of over 146 million dollars in total. It was awfully generous of us to send that economic gift to Windsor first rather than supporting our local economy.

Ontario municipalities must follow local purchasing bylaws under the Municipal Act alongside the Provincial Municipal Buy Ontario Procurement Directive, which prioritizes Canadian and Ontario-made goods but it's up to the local government to prioritize local business and workers.

Buy local- support local - it matters! Could you imagine how many Chatham Kent businesses would have loved to have all or at least some of that money go through their books. After all, they employ local people, and let's not forget that they pay property taxes and hire other local companies to support their business.

One of my first motions on council will be to support local businesses and local workers! As a community we need to prioritize local. By giving an advantage in the tendering process to local businesses, we can ensure that your tax dollars will stay in our community while still being competitive and offering value to the tax payers.

When choosing who will lead this municipality for the next 4 years, let's learn from the mistakes of past councils and not repeat this again! Choose wisely when voting on October 26th.

Community of Ridgetown - Please be advised that on September 1st, 2026 Golf Course Line, from Scane Road to Marsh Street will be closed to facilitate a culvert replacement until September 5th 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Emergency vehicles and local traffic will have access to the work location of 99 Golf Course Line. However, through traffic will not be permitted during the closure. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour and allow additional travel time.

Detour - Scane Road at Golf Course Line, to Ridge Line, to Main Street West, to Erie Street South, to Hill Road

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is lifting the emergency water restrictions that have been in place for Chatham and several surrounding communities. Residents are now being asked to conserve water by limiting grass watering over the next few days.

Effective immediately, residents and businesses in Chatham, Grande Pointe, Pain Court, Dover Centre, Mitchell’s Bay, Dresden, Tupperville, Eberts, Prairie Siding, Thamesville and Kent Bridge may resume normal water use such as showering, laundry, and bathing.

Our largest industrial, commercial and institutional water customers are being contacted directly and asked to gradually resume water consumption over the next few days to avoid putting increased strain on the system. Restaurants, car washes, and laundromats are no longer being asked to voluntarily remain closed.

Municipal splash pads and arenas in the impacted areas will reopen as scheduled tomorrow, September 1.

While the emergency restrictions have been lifted, regular lawn watering restrictions are now in effect for customers served by the affected water system.
• This applies to lawn watering; all irrigation uses and all other non-essential uses of the potable water supply.
• Customers with odd numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on odd numbered days.
• Customers with even numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even numbered days.
• This does not apply for newly sodded lawns.

The Municipality and Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission thank residents and businesses for their significant cooperation throughout the restrictions. The reduction in water use across the affected communities produced real results and helped protect the water system while crews worked to stabilize operations.

The Municipality recognizes the inconvenience the emergency restrictions caused and thanks residents, businesses and community organizations for their understanding and cooperation. The collective response demonstrated the significant impact that conservation can have when the community works together.
