COMMUNITY SAFETY & JUSTICE FORUM

On June 4, 2026, Chief and Council unanimously passed a resolution to host a Community Safety and Justice Forum and to consider additional measures to address violence, illegal drug activity, substance misuse, and other issues affecting community safety and quality of life. This includes discussions exploring the possibility of becoming an alcohol- and illegal drug-free Nation.

Chief and Council acknowledge that meaningful community engagement is essential to ensuring members are informed and have the opportunity to help determine the future of our Nation. We also recognize that lasting improvements in community safety will require ongoing community participation, effective enforcement, and continued investment in wellness, prevention, treatment, recovery, and support services.

The Community Safety and Justice Forum will provide an opportunity for community members to respectfully raise concerns, ask questions, share ideas, and discuss potential solutions and strategies to address safety concerns within the Nation.

Confirmed guests for the forum include:
- Chief and Council
- Chief of Police Jason Colon, Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS)
- Operations Inspector Darryl Hunter, MFNPS
- Birdtail Sioux Detachment Sergeant Ron Shingoose, MFNPS
- Leanne Gardiner, Director of Community Safety and Policing, Southern Chiefs' Organization (SCO)
- Crystal Brown, Director of Justice Programs, SCO

We encourage all community members to attend so that we can work together toward building a safer, healthier, and stronger Nation for current and future generations.

An agenda and Zoom link will be shared closer to the forum date.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day and Father’s Day🦬🪶🤍

Today and every day, we honour our ancestors, our language, culture, history, and the teachings they carried forward for future generations. We give thanks for the strength, resilience, and spirit of our Nation and all Indigenous Peoples. May we continue to walk in a good way, guided by the wisdom of those who came before us and inspired by the generations yet to come!

We also recognize the Ates, Unkans, and father figures whose love, guidance, and leadership help shape our families and community!

As we celebrate, we acknowledge that this is also a difficult time for many in our community. We hold our relatives in our hearts and offer our thoughts and prayers to all those who are grieving or facing challenges.
