It was a wonderful morning at Drag Queen Storytime!
Families enjoyed stories, songs, and dancing with our special guests Lucy Flawless and Baby Bel Bel. The queens kept everyone entertained with their energy, humour and engaging storytelling, creating a fun and welcoming experience for children and caregivers.

After story time, families had the opportunity to take photos and visit with the local firefighters and EMS who brought their vehicles for kids to explore.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a program filled with reading, creativity, community, and fun!
Thank you to Youth Pride Durham and Durham Children's Aid Society for helping deliver this fabulous and much loved program

Junior Book Club meets Friday, June 26th at 4:00 PM at the Cannington library branch for one final adventure before our summer break! 📚✨

If your reader still needs a copy, now’s the perfect time to let us know. Books are available in Cannington, and we can also send copies to Beaverton or Sunderland for pickup, just contact us to arrange it.

📚 Junior Book Club is heading into summer with one last adventure!

Join us on Friday, June 26th at 4:00 PM at the Cannington library branch as we discuss Impossible Creatures, a thrilling fantasy filled with magical beasts, secret worlds, and danger around every corner. 🐉✨

This will be our final Junior Book Club meeting before we take a break for the summer, so don’t miss it!

Copies of the book are available to pick up in Cannington. If you’d prefer to pick up your copy in Beaverton or Sunderland, contact us and we’d be happy to send one to your branch for pickup.

📚 Big news for young readers and their grown-ups!

All three Brock Libraries branches now have a brand new First Chapter Books section in the children’s area! 🎉

We’ve gathered together some of the best “next step” books from our children’s collection to create an easier-to-browse section for families with emerging readers. These books are perfect for kids who are ready to move beyond Easy Readers, but aren’t quite ready for longer chapter books yet.

First Chapter Books feature:
✨ Shorter stories
✨ Bigger font sizes
✨ Simple, engaging plots
✨ Illustrations in many titles
✨ Great choices for ages 7–9

We’re hoping this new section makes the reading journey a little easier and more fun for families.

We’ll be talking about The Sisters Grimm: The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley at the Cannington Branch, and everyone in Grades 4–8 is welcome to join in.

Haven’t finished the book? No problem! Come anyway for discussion and fun. You can still enjoy the club even if you’re only partway through the story.
