When weather and climate conditions are right, ice shelves can form along the Lake Huron shoreline. Although beautiful to look at, these ice shelves contain hidden dangers. Unlike with frozen ponds, our Great Lakes are constantly moving under the ice. The ice that forms breaks and refreezes repeatedly. This can cause hidden cracks and crevices to form, making the ice you see very unstable. There is a significant danger of falling through the ice. Hypothermia can set in within minutes of plunging into a lake in winter. Keep safe by observing any ice shelves from the safety of the shore and stay off the ice.

You asked, we have answers.
On January 1, Ontario will require carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to be installed adjacent to each sleeping area and on each storey of your home, if your home has:
• a fuel burning appliance
• a fireplace
• an attached garage
• receives its heated air from a fuel burning appliance that is located outside of the home

Why? Because CO is invisible and odourless. You won’t know it’s there, but your alarm will.
It’s the law. Skirting the rules risk charges and fines, and most importantly, it risks lives.
If you haven’t installed your CO alarms yet, now’s the time.
No CO and smoke alarms = no protection.
If you’re unsure of what you need, we’ve made it simple. Everything’s at Ontario.ca/COSafety.

A dry Christmas tree can go from festive to fully engulfed in seconds.
This season, keep your home and family safe:
💧 Water your natural tree daily
🔌 Use CSA-approved lights
♨️ Keep the tree away from heat sources
🌙 Turn off lights before bed or leaving the house
Water your tree… so we don’t have to.
Stay safe, NOTL! 🚒

It's Fire Prevention Week!
Bluewater Fire Services and the Municipality of Bluewater are proud to support this year's theme "Charge into Fire Safety—Lithium Batteries in Your Home".

When it comes to lithium-ion batteries, buy, charge and recycle safely with these steps:

1) Buy only listed products. Make sure products using lithium-ion batteries have a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA.

2) Charge devices safely. Always use the cord that came with the device, charge on a hard surface, and stop using damaged cords immediately!

3) Recycle batteries responsibly. Don't throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start a fire.
