On August 25th, SAM had the opportunity to showcase conservation work happening in the Towns of Bauline and Torbay during a visit from the Honourable Nathalie Provost, Châteauguay—Les Jardins-de-Napierville, Secretary of State for Nature. 🌳
Joined by municipal leaders and staff, SAM’s Executive Director Zach Burrows and Board Chair Heidi Kolodniski explored local Conservation Areas and connected with community members, highlighting how municipalities are taking action to protect the natural spaces that make their communities special. 🌼
The visit also highlighted SAM’s work supported through Environment and Climate Change Canada's Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund, helping municipalities and communities protect important natural areas and contribute to Canada’s goal of conserving 30% of its lands and waters by 2030. 🤝
From coastal habitats and wetlands to urban forests, conservation happens on the ground, in communities and through partnerships. We’re proud to see this work recognized at the national level and grateful to the municipalities and partners working alongside SAM to protect and steward NL’s natural spaces. 🌊
