The Township hosts two Household Hazardous Waste days annually to allow residents to safely dispose of waste not regularly accepted at our waste sites.

Recycle your batteries to prevent fires! Never throw batteries into the trash or regular blue bins.

🔋 Batteries can cause sparks if they come into contact with debris.
🔋Lithium batteries can be damaged in garbage trucks and cause fires at waste processing centres.
🔋Batteries can overheat if left outdoors.

Used batteries can be dropped off at one of our waste or waste transfer sites, or at the Municipal Office. Batteries are also accepted during Household Hazardous Waste Day.

MV Celebrates 25 Years

We’re sharing facts, photos, and history all year to celebrate 25 Years of Madawaska Valley. View all our shares so far on our website: www.madawaskavalley.ca/MV25.

In July of 1944, local lad Frank Yaraskovitch was captured by German forces during the Battle for Verrieres Ridge in France. Born and raised in Halfway, Frank was one of many from the area who enlisted during World War II, and pictured here are his papers from when he was registered as a Prisoner of War at just 23 years old. After his capture, Frank was relocated by train to a prisoner camp in Germany and was able to send letters to his sister back home to let her know he was well. In 1945, after being forced to march several hundred kilometres as the war drew to an end, Frank was freed and made his way back to England before returning home. Frank spent his later years in Chalk River raising a family and working for Atomic Energy of Canada before passing away in 2006 at the age of 85.

More turnover in the Reeve’s chair in Radcliffe: in 1946, Tony Golka becomes Reeve for just one year, but will serve again from 1948-1954.
