šŸ’™ Shelburne County Senior Safety was proud to take part in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Yarmouth this past weekend.

It was an honour to walk alongside community members, families, caregivers, and supporters to raise awareness and show support for those living with dementia and their care partners. Events like this are an important reminder that no one should face Alzheimer’s or dementia alone.

A heartfelt thank you to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia for the incredible work they do every day to support individuals and families across our province. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Ashley Rhyno for coordinating such a meaningful and well-organized event. šŸ’™

Together, we walked for memories, for loved ones, and for hope.

🐾 A friendly reminder for seniors and pet owners from the By-Law Officer! 🐶

Our pets are family, and being a responsible pet owner includes making sure your dog is registered with the Municipality of Shelburne. Dog registration helps ensure owners can be quickly contacted if a pet is found wandering or gets lost.

For many seniors, pets provide companionship, comfort, and routine — so keeping them safe is especially important. ā¤ļø

You can review the Municipality’s Dog Bylaw here: www.municipalityofshelburne.ca/by-laws/

Let’s work together to keep both our seniors and their furry companions safe in our communities! šŸ•

A great reminder to share from the By-Law Officer...

A key part of being a responsible pet owner in Shelburne is registering your dog with the municipality. Registering your dog will ensure that we are able to locate owners if your dog is found running. The Municipality’s Dog Bylaw that can be found at: www.municipalityofshelburne.ca/by-laws/

As dog owners, it's important to remember the responsibilities that come with having a furry friend! 🐾

ā€˜What is dementia?’ Let’s break it down šŸ‘‡

Dementia is a group of symptoms that show your brain isn’t working as it should.

Early symptoms are often mild, and might include little things like misplacing your belongings, struggling to find the right word for everyday objects, or finding day-to-day activities difficult.

Many of us will notice changes to thinking abilities and memory as we get older. However with dementia, these symptoms get worse over time.

And when symptoms start to interfere with daily life, this is known as dementia.

It’s really important to remember that dementia is caused by diseases that damage your brain – it’s not a normal part of getting older.

So if you’re worried about yourself or someone else, speak to your GP, or give our Dementia Support Line a call on 0333 150 3456 for more support and advice.

And please share this post so we can raise awareness of dementia and educate as many people as possible about this devastating condition.
