Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a reminder that survivors deserve compassion, safety, and support — not stigma.

Together, we can help create safer communities by listening, believing, and standing with survivors. Ending sexual violence starts with awareness, prevention, and meaningful support.

💙 Support Survivors. End Sexual Violence.

Executive Director Marie McCallum welcomed Barrie-Innisfil MPP Andrea Khanjin and Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Grant Review Team Member Pamela Blackmore to her offices at the Barrie Simcoe Emergency Services Campus to celebrate the strengthened crisis-response resources gained from a two-year OTF Resilient Communities Fund grant. The $199,900 in funding was provided to build the resilience and sustainability of the local agency by improving the mental health self-care skills of its crisis-response team, offering professional development opportunities to staff, and raising VSSC’s public profile to welcome additional support and engagement from area businesses, organizations and donors.

“We are grateful for the support from OTF to provide the resources for our agency to deepen its commitment to those most vulnerable across our local communities,” said Marie McCallum. “These supports are essential to ensuring our staff and volunteer teams are equipped with the tools and strategies they need to respond 24/7 to highly vulnerable individuals in our area.”

Today, on Red Dress Day, we pause to honour and remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

Red dresses are displayed as powerful symbols of those who are no longer with us—representing lives taken too soon and the voices that must never be forgotten.

We stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities, acknowledging the ongoing impact of violence and the importance of awareness, education, and meaningful action.

At Victim Services of Simcoe County, we remain committed to supporting individuals and families affected by trauma, while continuing to learn and provide culturally respectful care.

Today, we invite our community to reflect, wear red, and honour those who are missing.
