🔥 Fire Safety Tip Thursday 🔥

Lexi's Tip: Snooze safely! Replace your smoke detectors every 10 years to stay paw-sitively protected.

We all know that smoke detector batteries need to be replaced regularly, but the entire unit also has a lifespan. Over time, the sensing components wear out and the detector becomes less reliable, which is why the whole device should be replaced every 10 years.

🔥 Fire Safety Tip Tuesday 🔥

Don't go bacon my heart! During a fire, Gus reminds you to crawl low under the smoke.

When there's a fire, crawling low under smoke is important as cleaner air is closer to the floor where it is easier to breathe. Smoke rises and contains toxic gases. Staying low also helps you see better and move more safely toward an exit avoiding the hottest, most dangerous air.

🔥 Fire Safety Tip Thursday 🔥

Be paw-some like Raven! Sweep up leaves and keep fire risks at bay!

❌Never park your vehicle over a pile of leaves. The heat from the catalytic converter or exhaust system can ignite the leaves below, causing damage and destruction to your vehicle.

✅Clear leaves from roofs, gutters, and at least 5 feet from foundations. This creates a "defensible space" around your home to protect against the spread of fire.

🔥 Fire Safety Tip Tuesday 🔥

Rocky reminds you: Keep your paws moving! Escape via the stairs, not an elevator in an emergency!

Elevators can easily become trapped, filled with smoke, or malfunction due to power failures. Stairwells are specially designed with fire-resistant materials to act as safe, reliable exit routes.

If you are unable to use the stairs, go to a designated Area of Refuge (usually a fire-rated stairwell landing) and call emergency services to inform them of your exact location.

🚒 Firefighter Training — May 21, 2026 👨‍🚒

Last week, the Aylmer Fire Department conducted training focused on hydrant hook-ups and driver/operator development.

Firefighters practiced connecting to hydrants, deploying hoses, and ensuring efficient water flow for emergency response scenarios. This type of training helps crews maintain speed and accuracy when seconds matter on real calls.

Driver training focused on apparatus handling skills such as safe positioning and improving overall response readiness while operating emergency vehicles under varying conditions.

Training was carried out in the industrial park during off-peak hours, providing a valuable real-world setting to practice critical, life-saving skills.

🔥 Fire Safety Tip Thursday 🔥

Our pack agrees: Buffy, Bruin & Beatrice remind you that two ways out = double the safety!

Two Primary Ways Out:
🚪Door - main exit; ensure it is not blocked and can be unlocked quickly
🏠Window - secondary exit; for two-story homes, keep a collapsible fire escape ladder in, or near, upper-story windows

🔥 Fire Safety Tip Tuesday 🔥

Be alert like Maple! 🐶 A dust-free alarm is a life-saving alarm. Gently dust your smoke alarms every six months.

Dust and debris can build up over time and may prevent your smoke alarm from working properly. A quick, gentle cleaning helps ensure your alarm can detect smoke when you need it most.
