MADD York Region Chapter volunteers are participating in today’s Police Week Open House, held at York Regional Police’s Community Safety Village.

Volunteers Jill, Malik and Meera discussed our anti-impaired driving message with parents, while their children checked out the merchandise and materials on our display table.

In addition to the community booths such as ours, the event features displays by fire, paramedic and fire services, rides in a mini fire truck, and police motorcycle demonstrations.

During this National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, March 15–21, you can Light a Candle for someone killed or injured in an impaired driving crash.

Take a photo or short video of yourself or a loved one lighting a candle in memory of those killed or injured in impaired driving crashes.

Share your post on social media using the hashtag and tag MADD Canada so we can help spread the message and reshare your post. Together, we can shine a light on the lives affected by impaired driving and reinforce the importance of prevention.

MADD Canada and our MADD York Region Chapter members remind all Canadians to:

• Never drive a car, ATV, snowmobile or any other vehicle while impaired;
• Always plan ahead so you know how you are getting home safely;
• Never get into a vehicle being operated by someone who is impaired; and
• Call 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.

In conjunction with International Women’s Day celebrations, MADD York Region Chapter volunteers are participating today in this year’s INSPIRE event at Aurora’s Central Fire Station on Earl Stewart Drive.

The aim is to empower people with opportunity to connect with representatives of various work and volunteer organizations.

Standing in front of our MADD Canada Memorial Wall, MADD York volunteers Jill, Rey, Kaitlin, Udai and Meera are happy to speak with visitors and hand out our branded materials to remind everyone NOT to drive impaired.

Meera stands at the MADD York Region booth, and in the background other groups such as firefighers, paramedics and police can be seen greeting visitors at the INSPIRE event, while MADD volunteer Kaitlin outlines some of the brochures and MADD materials available.

The event continues until 3 pm; come chat with our MADD York Region volunteers!

Thank you, York Regional Police, for innovative campaigns such as this weekend's "Fishing For Impaireds" - ensuring no impaired anglers end up on our roads! MADD York Region members certainly support this initiative!

Planning on heading out onto this weekend? We’ll see you there! ✋

We’ll be out on the water again for the Fishing for Impaired initiative, in partnership with MADD Canada, Arrive Alive, Ontario Parks, Ontario Provincial Police and Georgina Island Police, to remind ice fishers, snowmobilers and anyone planning activities on the ice that impaired driving – whether on the road or on a frozen lake – is a criminal offence.

We’ll be out making sure everyone partaking in winter activities on Lake Simcoe is doing so responsibly and safely.

MADD York Region volunteers are thrilled to see the love of two vital Chapter members profiled for everyone across Canada to see on this Valentine's weekend! Happy Valentines Day to our beloved Kathy and Angela!!

You can find love in unusual places like our outstanding volunteers, Kathy and Angela!

They found true love after meeting through MADD Canada and under heartbreaking circumstances. Angela was representing the Barrie/Simcoe chapter while supporting Kathy’s family through the court process when her niece had been killed by an impaired driver. What started as an amazing friendship became a wonderful relationship that led to marriage on January 16, 2016. A silver lining to a very sad and tragic time.

Thank you for everything you do for MADD Canada. We are so happy to have played a small part in your love story 💕
