Alzheimer Society of York Region Help for Today...Hope for Tomorrow

Reconnecting people living with dementia with the soundtrack of their lives! 🎵

Did you know that listening to music can boost mood, enhance relaxation, encourage movement, and foster communication?

The Alzheimer Society Music Project provides individuals living with dementia with free MP3 players full of personalized music.*

When a person living with dementia hears music they listened to earlier in their life, they may be able to recognize the song and even recall some part of the memory they previously associated with it.

*AS York provides free MP3 players to York Region residents who live with dementia, reside in the community with a family caregiver, and have completed an application.

For 40 years, the Alzheimer Society of York Region (AS York) has supported local families, like Elizabeth’s, as they navigate a dementia diagnosis. In 1986, Elizabeth’s mother, Frances, graciously raised funds in support of AS York programs and Elizabeth’s grandmother, Ivy, who lived with dementia.

Over the years, supporters – like Frances – have come together, surrounding families impacted by the disease . Today, nearly 40 years later, Elizabeth relies on this same support as she cares for her mother, Frances, who now lives with dementia.

We invite you to join us in marking this milestone 40th anniversary by joining The Giving Circle, a community of compassionate individuals who give monthly to help surround caregivers, like Elizabeth, with essential programs and services.

Since 1986, the Alzheimer Society of York Region (AS York) has offered support for families impacted by dementia. Demand for local programs and services has continued to grow, and now, 40 years later, over 21,000 families in York Region are impacted by the disease.

The generosity of our community has made it possible for AS York to grow over time. To mark 40 years of service, AS York is introducing The Giving Circle. This community of compassionate monthly donors offers a circle of support, providing steady, reliable care that individuals and families can count on throughout every stage of their journey with dementia.

Because dementia doesn’t stop – and neither should care.
