Yesterday during a packed ceremony at headquarters, more than 130 members were presented with a Chief of Police Award in recognition of their outstanding work.

The award winners include members who have undertaken major investigations, those who have run towards danger to ensure the safety of others, and a team who makes sure the organization stays connected with the community.

For the first time, the new Travis Gillespie Victims of Crime Award was presented to a member who went above and beyond to help someone in need.

Constable Joe Fernando showed compassion and empathy towards a father who lost his son in a tragic car accident.

Maintaining a close relationship with the family, Constable Fernando continues to participate in charitable events in the memory of the victim to this day.

Help us congratulate Constable Fernando and all of our worthy award recipients for their hard work!👏

Many of our main crime statistics have seen significant declines compared to this time in 2025.

This improvement in community safety is not just thanks to the work of our officers, but a credit to residents for doing their part to prevent crime in their neighbourhoods.

While the numbers are down, rest assured York Regional Police is working hard to ensure they continue that way.

Southbound & Down!

After 14 years and a nickname you should know leaving DNA at the scene is a rookie mistake.

A 43-year-old male suspect is facing eight charges as the result of an investigation into a January bank robbery in Richmond Hill.
DNA evidence recovered from the scene, where the suspect used a replica firearm, also linked the suspect to four bank robberies committed in February 2012, by the “Southbound Bandit”.
