Road Safety School is in session🍎

As the kids head back to the classroom, we're providing drivers and pedestrians with some safety tips:

Pedestrians:
🚶‍➡️Use the sidewalks and crosswalks
➡️Always look both ways before crossing the street
🚲Don't run when crossing a road and walk your bike in a crosswalk
👀Make eye contact with drivers when crossing so you know they see you

Drivers:
🛑Be alert and prepared to stop
🚗Slow down and respect the speed limit
Keep your eyes on the road and don't drive while distracted
🚨Exercise extra caution in community safety zones
🚌Never pass a school bus when lights are flashing

Bad news for vehicle thieves: Business is down 37%.

Vehicle thefts in York Region dropped 37% from January to June 2026 when compared with the same period last year.

Through Operation Auto Guard, the tireless work of our investigators and the coordination from the Real-Time Operations Centre, YRP is combatting vehicle thefts across the region.

But this significant drop is also thanks to you. You're following the 6 Steps to protect your vehicle from auto thieves and we're seeing the results.

But let’s not take our foot off the gas.

Share these tips with your friends and family members to keep their vehicles safe too:

✔ Don't leave valuables in your vehicle
✔ Install a GPS tracking device or a kill switch in your vehicle
✔ Invest in outdoor cameras
✔ Use a steering wheel lock
✔ Lock the vehicle and keep fobs stored in a Faraday bag
✔ Park in a closed and locked garage

The future looks bright when you see the next generation in action ☀️

Last month, Chief Da Silva joined this year’s Youth in Policing Initiative participants to celebrate their accomplishments and growth over the summer.

But this is just the beginning, and the confidence, skills and experiences they’ve gained will help shape whatever comes next.

Whether its a career in policing or a completely different path, we're proud York Regional Police was a part of their journey.
