It’s hard to put into words how happy and proud we are to have hosted the Firefit 2026 Saskatchewan/Manitoba/Nunavut Regional Championships! Two day of competition displaying strength, stamina, determination, and sportsmanship! Great crowds both days that were loud and cheered on all these competitors! The rain gave us just enough of a break to get the races in today! Our list of thank you’s is long because it takes that many people to turn this into an event to be proud of!
We are gonna start with Riley Malone. His passion for the sport got members of our dept training alongside him and they got their first taste of Firefit last year in Martinsville. They came home with a plan to host the event and our dept said hell ya! Thanks “Champ”!!
Next is Assiniboia Fire Rescue. All the planning, setup, work and tear down. Awesome job guys! Plus we had 8 members run individuals and 13 run relays in the competition! You guys did us very proud!
A huge thanks to Jessica Rust. She jumped at the chance to emcee our event. Her husband is not only on our dept but he’s a competitor! You can tell her passion and support for Firefit came thru all weekend! Heartfelt thank you from us guys for doing such an amazing job!
Our volunteers. The first pic in this post was taken Sunday right before the skies opened up! This was most of our volunteers but missed some from Saturday. We cannot thank you enough for all the work you put in this weekend. A lot of hard work resetting the course, referees, timekeepers, captains and our SCBA crew. None of this happens without you because the 19 of us couldn’t do it alone! Thank you!
The competitors themselves! Thank you for putting on the miles and time to drive from all over Canada and the States to come compete in Assiniboia. Good luck to those going to Nationals! Amazing athletes each and everyone of you! Thank you!

Also a big thank you to Dale and Hilary from FireFit Championships. Absolute wonderful people to work with! They are passionate about what they do and we wish them all the best and safe travels as they cross our country! Maybe we see you back in our town again in a couple years!!
And lastly thank you to everyone that showed up! It was a very busy weekend in town but you still managed to line the street and fill the bleacher’s both days. We hope you enjoyed the athletes and the competition. Thank you for cheering on our guys but also every competitor to get them across that line!
I know we have possibly missed someone but please know we are very grateful to each and every person that helped make Firefit in Assiniboia such a fantastic success!
