Let's Talk Venting Index!

🌬️ What Is the BC Venting Index — and Why Does It Matter for Open Burning? 🔥
Before you light an open burn in Spallumcheen, check the BC Venting Index — it’s a daily forecast that tells you how well smoke will disperse in the atmosphere.
🧠 Why It’s Important:
The Venting Index helps protect air quality and public health by predicting how smoke will behave:
• Mixing Height: How high smoke can rise.
• Wind Speed: How fast it can spread and dilute.
📊 Venting Index Ratings:
• 0–33 = Poor ❌ Smoke stays trapped near the ground.
• 34–54 = Fair ⚠️ Smoke may linger and affect air quality.
• 55–100 = Good ✅ Smoke disperses safely — burning is allowed.
âś… In Spallumcheen:
• Open burning is only permitted when the Venting Index is “GOOD.”
• Check the daily forecast before burning: 🔗 https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/air-land-water/air/air-pollution/smoke-burning/ventilation-index
📞 Call 1-888-281-2992 for automated updates.
Burning during poor conditions can lead to smoke buildup, health risks, and fines. Let’s burn responsibly and keep our air clean!
