The upcoming election and the issues at hand for our township and Chandos Ward 1, where I am running are a plenty. What I will promise, should I be fortunate enough to be entrusted with being elected to the Chandos Ward 1 councillor position by you the electorate is that I will always provide responsible representation that will move our community forward. I will devote the necessary energy, commitment and acumen that this position requires and that you the voter and taxpayer deserve going forward. Below is what I will champion if given that opportunity
Initiate a major housing summit during the first 90 days in office that will support and focus on an Affordable Housing development. All options regarding types of housing should be considered and be on the table.
📌 Look to free up some of the townships land inventory and have it be made available for purchase to attract builders and, in turn, partner with them to build for the future.
📌Prioritize the building of affordable housing, so that we can attract families and tradespeople to live and work within the North Kawartha community. There is a need for Seniors & special needs consideration when we move forward on housing initiatives.
📌Encourage and support (or implement) initiatives to bring people to the North Kawartha. We need all of the below to build housing, attract families & grow the region's economic outlook:
📍Attract small business and investment to spur job creation within the entire township, in areas where it is needed most.
📍 Keep taxes low!!
📍 Push for increased funding at the county level to improve the regional road
network.
📍 Explore whether the use of tax incentives can attract businesses of all types, including a dining option, where it makes business sense for both the operator and the township.
📌Prioritize the Environment and the health of our lakes.
📌Fix the issues with Crowe Valley Conservation Authority. By working with council and the province to deliver a clear understanding of the mandate of CVCA. This has now become a troublesome issue for property development and enhancements here on Chandos Lake. Just to be clear I 100% support maintaining our lake health so that we will continue to have a vibrant ecosystem for many years into the future. That said, I believe council approvals for citizen applications for property improvements and development have been circumvented by Crowe Valley outside of their provincial mandate. Our current council representative with the CVCA has failed to represent the interests of the Chandos Lake community in this regard!!!
📌Find a way to improve on cottage roads where possible and press Peterborough county to address those roads and infrastructure projects under their purview.
📌 Ask and look for an Increased OPP presence/patrols and zero leniency to those that excessively speed. I truly believe education and speed enforcement are key!!!
📌Through community outreach and quarterly town halls, I plan to create discussion round tables around pressing and new needs that enables local councils to provide solutions to benefit all.
In concluding I am asking for your support so that I can be that strong voice on council that is reliable, fully engaged and able to meet the challenges that the next 4 years will bring. We have much to develop and build here in North Kawartha and I know I can deliver on those needs as your elected council representative in Ward 1 here on Chandos Lake
Warmest Regards
John Lovatsis for Chandos Ward 1 in North Kawartha
