Well the results are now in and I was not successful in my pursuit of the seat for Ward 1 here in North Kawartha. First let me congratulate Jim O'Shea on his successful election to council.

There are many people to say thank you too and I will reach out to each individually to thank them for all of their support and guidance thru my first foray into politics. It was a great experience and I got to meet and network with some great people and citizens here in North Kawartha and specifically here in Apsley and Chandos Lake.

Wanted to also congratulate both Colin and RuthAnne on their successful runs. They are both great people and will be great stewards for the North Kawartha community. I will now devote more time to becoming more involved in some volunteer work supporting the current council and making this community grow and prosper. There is much to look forward to and I know that with Colin returning and RuthAnne succeeding in her run, coupled with our current Mayor Carolyn Amyotte and Deputy Mayor Jim Whelan, NK progress on many of the important issues touched on by myself and others during the election run up will be acted on. I will continue to be an active voice in making sure that they are.

With that, I will say THANK YOU and see you around town and Chandos Lake

Warmest Regards

John Lovatsis

As your Ward 1 Councillor, I will fight to keep this community thriving, at the speed in which our residents are comfortable, and promise to provide you all with my full attention to the matters that will make our community and our economy flourish.

Our Ward 1 residents require a councillor that is open in his communication to the residents and property owners, who listens to your concerns and who will work tirelessly to address the concerns that affect our community.

I have heard from many here in Ward 1 who are asking for more affordable and accessible housing and will push to create those opportunities for individuals and families in need. I believe that with more affordable housing, attention to decisions affecting our environmental well-being and careful management of the tax burden for residents, our area can thrive.

I promise to remain focused on making sure that the foundation that has made us who we are as a community is solid, but also allow us to move forward and create a stronger and better future for the next generation. Just a few of those important initiatives are listed below and attached

· Housing development that meet the needs of today and the future.
· Attract small business and labour to support them
· Enhancements to Senior Care
· Crowe Valley Conservation Authority - Reform their mandate that will allow for property improvements that have been circumvented by CVCA that far exceeds their mandate.
· Internet improvements that meets the needs for economic development now and in the future
· Hwy 28 safety enhancements and increased enforcement
· Council fiscal accountability
· Improvements/beautification of the Apsley Main St core.

In concluding and as I have written previously, there is much to do during the next 4 years and I know that I am up to the challenge of making these next 4 years transformational for the entire North Kawartha community and specifically to the people of Ward 1!!

With that being said I ask for your support and vote in this election.

With Thanks

Voter turnout for advance voting thus far, one week out from election day and we have had a 16% turnout in Ward 1 & 13% overall in North Kawartha. The citizens North Kawartha and Ward 1 can do better than that. It is my belief that people need to remember this is your chance to get out and participate and see how you can affect the next four years.
So, talk to your neighbours, friends, family, their friends and families and friends and make sure you they use their opportunity to vote. It truly is important for all of us to take the time to go on line or by phone and participate in the process of this and every election.

With that being said, PLEASE VOTE!!!

An issue that has been talked about at length during the last year and during this election is Short Term Rentals. My stance on this is clear. I want everyone to know that I fully support short term rentals by responsible property owners! No enforcement means no progress. We have by laws on the books that deal with excessive noise (day and night after 11) and nuisance behavior. They just need to be enforced against those properties that are creating the issues that impact the enjoyment of neighboring property owners.

The above being said I will absolutely protect the rights of those property owners that are experiencing issues with neighboring properties from owners that rent and are not responsible owners.

I have some recommendations that I believe when implemented and coupled with, let me say this again, ENFORCEMENT, will help to punish those property owners that rent and do not look to educate their clients/renters to respect their neighbors and care only about the profit generated from their property. Please read my recommendations below. These are a just a starting point to ensure we all can enjoy the lake and all it has to offer without punishing responsible owners that rent to mitigate the expenses associated with owning Cottage properties.

The upcoming election and the issues at hand for our township and Chandos Ward 1, where I am running are a plenty. What I will promise, should I be fortunate enough to be entrusted with being elected to the Chandos Ward 1 councillor position by you the electorate is that I will always provide responsible representation that will move our community forward. I will devote the necessary energy, commitment and acumen that this position requires and that you the voter and taxpayer deserve going forward. Below is what I will champion if given that opportunity

Initiate a major housing summit during the first 90 days in office that will support and focus on an Affordable Housing development. All options regarding types of housing should be considered and be on the table.
📌 Look to free up some of the townships land inventory and have it be made available for purchase to attract builders and, in turn, partner with them to build for the future.
📌Prioritize the building of affordable housing, so that we can attract families and tradespeople to live and work within the North Kawartha community. There is a need for Seniors & special needs consideration when we move forward on housing initiatives.
📌Encourage and support (or implement) initiatives to bring people to the North Kawartha. We need all of the below to build housing, attract families & grow the region's economic outlook:
📍Attract small business and investment to spur job creation within the entire township, in areas where it is needed most.
📍 Keep taxes low!!
📍 Push for increased funding at the county level to improve the regional road
network.
📍 Explore whether the use of tax incentives can attract businesses of all types, including a dining option, where it makes business sense for both the operator and the township.

📌Prioritize the Environment and the health of our lakes.

📌Fix the issues with Crowe Valley Conservation Authority. By working with council and the province to deliver a clear understanding of the mandate of CVCA. This has now become a troublesome issue for property development and enhancements here on Chandos Lake. Just to be clear I 100% support maintaining our lake health so that we will continue to have a vibrant ecosystem for many years into the future. That said, I believe council approvals for citizen applications for property improvements and development have been circumvented by Crowe Valley outside of their provincial mandate. Our current council representative with the CVCA has failed to represent the interests of the Chandos Lake community in this regard!!!

📌Find a way to improve on cottage roads where possible and press Peterborough county to address those roads and infrastructure projects under their purview.

📌 Ask and look for an Increased OPP presence/patrols and zero leniency to those that excessively speed. I truly believe education and speed enforcement are key!!!

📌Through community outreach and quarterly town halls, I plan to create discussion round tables around pressing and new needs that enables local councils to provide solutions to benefit all.

In concluding I am asking for your support so that I can be that strong voice on council that is reliable, fully engaged and able to meet the challenges that the next 4 years will bring. We have much to develop and build here in North Kawartha and I know I can deliver on those needs as your elected council representative in Ward 1 here on Chandos Lake

Warmest Regards
