Town of Antigonish Recreation Connecting community with recreation opportunities. Welcome to the Town of Antigonish Recreation page. Comments should reflect the topic or subject.

The Town of Antigonish is located in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People. We honor the Mi’kmaq as the past, present, and future caretakers of this land, and we are committed to walking together toward reconciliation and mutual respect. Antigonish is a small town in the northeastern corner of Nova Scotia. We are a hub and service center for the rural communities surrounding it. With a diverse and growing population, Antigonish is a family friendly town with lots of opportunity, access to good education at all levels, recreation, sports and culture activities. It is surrounded by rolling countryside with hiking and beautiful beaches. Antigonish is home of St Francis Xavier University which has a strong reputation across Canada and internationally. StFX is well known for its school spirit and the “X-Ring”. Alumni around the world celebrate their connections to the university and the town. The University brings a wealth of expertise and diversity to the community through its faculty and students and doubles our population during the school session. We enjoy a vibrant culture in the arts with music, performing arts, visual arts and crafts, and fabulous festivals throughout the year. Gaelic culture is strong in the area and the Antigonish Highland Games have been celebrated here for over 150 years. Antigonish residents enjoy the small town charms but the lively life of a larger community. There are numerous community groups to get involved in community development, the arts, sustainable communities, energy and conservation. Sports and recreation opportunities are numerous with several arenas and sports fields, and teams involved at the local, regional and national level. The purpose of this page is to share information about local activities and events with our many residents, businesses, and visitors. Back to School – Crosswalk Safety

Tomorrow, students will be heading back to school, and our crossing guards will once again be helping them get to and from school safely.

Remember - drivers, including cyclists, must stop and yield the whole roadway at a crosswalk. Only when pedestrians and the crossing guards are safety on the sidewalk can drivers and cyclists proceed.

As students return to classrooms on Thursday, September 3, we remind motorists to slow down, stay alert, and watch for crossing guards, school buses, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Here's to a safe and successful school year!

Thankful for these folks allowing us to actively move to/from school safely!

With just two weeks to go before students head back to class, our crossing guards for the 2026/27 school year were at Town Hall yesterday to receive their safety gear and take part in orientation.

These dedicated individuals play an important role in helping students get to and from school safely each day, and we thank them for their commitment to our community.

School starts on Thursday, September 3, and we encourage all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and be mindful of crossing guards, school buses, and the many children who will be walking and cycling to school.

Let's work together to make the school year a safe one for everyone!
