**Content Warning - These photos depict a realistic accident exercise and may be difficult for some viewers.**

This morning’s Mock Accident at the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School, was a powerful and emotional reminder of the importance of making safe, responsible choices.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in today’s exercise.

Thank you to our brave student actors who brought this scenario to life. Two passengers of the vehicles walked away, one was arrested for driving impaired, one was trapped in a vehicle and had to be freed using the jaws of life, all while another student laid on the sidewalk pretending to be a casualty.

We are also incredibly grateful to the many agencies and first responders who took part; the Antigonish Fire Department, RCMP, EHS, and C.L. Curry Funeral Home.

This mock accident is not easy to watch (especially when one of your classmates is being put in a body bag) —but that’s why it matters. We hope the mock accident leaves a lasting impression, reminding all of us how quickly lives can change and how every decision matters. We want everyone to make smart choices and to get home safely always; especially during graduation celebrations.

Thank you again to all who contributed to making this meaningful event possible.

Public Notice – Safe Grad Mock Accident Exercise

On Monday, June 8, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Antigonish Town Fire Department, in partnership with the RCMP, EHS, and other emergency response agencies, will be conducting a Safe Grad mock accident exercise for the graduating class of Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School.

As part of the exercise, emergency vehicles will depart from the Antigonish Arena parking lot and travel along Fairview Street, Highland Drive, and Braemore Avenue before arriving at the school.

Please be advised that this is only an exercise, and there is no actual emergency. The event is being held for graduating students and school faculty as part of the school's Safe Grad program, helping to raise awareness about the consequences of impaired and distracted driving and the importance of making safe choices.

Residents may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles in the area during this time. We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation as we work with our community partners to deliver this important educational program.

This is an exercise only.
