Wildlife Technologist
35 hours/week

Wildlife Technologist will help with the daily running of Wings Avian Rehabilitation Centre including the following: Cleaning of inside wildlife habitats; setting up wildlife habitats with proper diets and enrichment items for all water birds, raptors, songbirds, reptiles, and small mammals. Hand feeding of orphaned wildlife such as songbirds, small mammals, and waterbirds. Animal restraint of waterbirds, small raptors, songbirds, reptiles, small mammals while examining or cleaning of wildlife cages or captures and rescues. General household duties for keeping the centre neat and clean for the wildlife and people (dishes, mopping, laundry, etc.) Preparing food for all wildlife in care, including hand feeding diets, mammal diets, songbird diets and raptor diets. Aid in the supervision of all volunteers, wildlife aids and assisting them with all their duties. Dealing with the public, whether in person or on the phone, by helping them with their wildlife problems and concerns (including orphaned wildlife, injured wildlife, or general information about wildlife.) Filling out government paperwork required by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Aiding and/or helping with wildlife rescues and releases. Aiding and/or helping emergency drivers by picking up wildlife from drop off locations such as the Humane Society. Researching of habitat and dietary needs of wildlife species in care. Aiding with the stocking and ordering of supplies.
The above tasks and responsibilities will be learned through hand-on training by shadowing a supervisor one-on -one until they feel comfortable working more independently. A supervisor will always by available to provide additional support and answer questions if needed.
