🐢Turtle Nesting Season is here!

Last night we admitted a deceased female Midland Painted Turtle that unfortunately lost her life to a collision with a car. Fortunately, upon examination, 5 viable eggs were salvaged from her and will now be incubated and hatched. This will allow these 5 the chance to carry on their mother’s legacy & genetics and important role in our wetlands.

‼️If you come across an injured or deceased turtle, please safely secure the turtle (rubbermade totes & boxes are perfect) and bring it to us so we can triage injured turtles, and salvage eggs from deceased females to gives these eggs the chance they deserve. Make sure to also note the EXACT location the turtle was found as they need to be released in the area they were found.

🐢 🪺 Found a nesting turtle?
Reach out to the Essex County Field Naturalists’ Turtle Conservation Committee to report turtle nests & nesting turtles. Their team of trained biologists will be able to protect the nests. They can be reached at: [email protected]

Severe storm warning is now in effect for Windsor-Essex County!

Please keep an eye out for baby birds, squirrels and other wildlife around yards, fallen branches and trees over the next several days.

Turtles are now also entering their nesting season, watch for them on the road! If you find any injured or deceased on the roads make sure to bring them in! We are able to salvage eggs from deceased females and release the hatchlings back into the wild after incubation

Spring is here, and the birds need your help!

And with it brings our beautiful birds & bats as they migrate back to their breeding grounds.

This means our intakes per day are increasing with patients suffering from head trauma after colliding with windows.

If you come across a bird that has hit a window or suspected to hit a window it needs to be brought in for treatment. Old knowledge thought it was best to let them recuperate for a couple hours before release. The new best practice is fo them to be brought immediately in for treatment as often at times they suffer from head/eye injuries for several days-weeks after colliding with windows.

We are in need of the following donations to help replenish our stock.
- Live mealworms
- Live Waxworms/Silkworms
- Live Superworms

We are also in dire need of bleach!

These can be purchased at pet stores, such as; Petsmart, Pet Value, Vervarium & other small business pet stores.

Donations can be dropped off at Wings HQ:
5281 Middleside Road, Amherstburg. From 8am - 9pm.
