Amherst Police responded to 111 calls for service over the course of the week.

Sunday:

Police attended a residence in the area of Spring Street and Church Street after receiving a report of a youth causing significant damage inside the dwelling. As a result, a female youth is facing one count of Mischief Under $5,000.00.

Monday:

Police received a report of a possible impaired driver. Upon further investigation, the vehicle and driver were located at an address near West Victoria Street. A 64-year-old female is facing one count of Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol, and one count of Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Equal to or Exceeding 80 mg% (alcohol).

Police attended an address near Church Street after receiving a report of an impaired driver. As a result, a 48-year-old male is facing one count of Operation While Impaired by Drug.

Police attended a business in the Downtown Core after receiving reports of a physical altercation. Upon arrival, one party was discovered on site and had sustained multiple injuries. This matter remains under investigation.

Tuesday:

Police received a report of a dine-and-dash that occurred at a business in the area of South Albion Street. This matter remains under investigation.

Subsequent to a compliance check, a 40-year-old male is facing one count of Failure to Comply with a Release Order.

Wednesday:

Police attended a business near the Downtown Core after receiving reports of a male attempting to forcefully gain entry to the premises. The situation was diffused, and the male was moved along without incident.

Police attended a residence in the area of West Victoria Street after receiving a report of unwanted communication. As a result, a 30-year-old male is facing two counts of Uttering Threats and one count of Possession of a Schedule One Substance (Co***ne).

Thursday:

Police were called to a business in the area of Albion Street after the property owner reported that multiple youth had vandalized their building. This matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report of theft from a business in the area of Robert Angus Drive and South Albion Street. The individual was quickly identified, and shortly thereafter, located with the stolen items in their possession. As a result, a 29-year-old female is facing one count of Theft Under $5,000.00, one count of Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer, one count of Entering onto a Premises from Which They Are Prohibited by Notice, and one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The female also had an outstanding warrant, which was executed incident to her arrest.

Friday:

While on patrol in the area of Willow Street, police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. This matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report of theft from a business in the Downtown Core. The subject of complaint was immediately identified. As a result, a 29-year-old female is facing one count of Theft Under $5,000.00 and was subsequently remanded into custody.

Saturday:

Police received a complaint from a male youth regarding threats being uttered against him by another youth. This matter remains under investigation.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟰 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀

A 29-year-old woman from New Brunswick who had been arrested on May 21st, 2026 and held for court was arrested again shortly after making an appearance in court on May 22nd, 2026.

Nellie Landry, aged 29 had been arrested and charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, resisting arrest and breach of probation in relation to an incident on the evening of May 21st, 2026. She was held overnight brought to court on May 22nd, 2026. She appeared on the charges and was released from custody with a court date to reappear.

Shortly after 1:00pm on May 22nd, 2026 Amherst Police responded to a complaint of a theft from a downtown business where a suspect had allegedly stolen articles of clothing. Landry was arrested by Police shortly afterwards and has been charged with theft under $5000 – Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code. She made a brief appearance in court on the new charges and was remanded into custody until Monday May 25th, 2026.

A media release has been issued by Amherst Police Department - Amherst NS:

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀

A 29-year-old woman from New Brunswick has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses as a result of a complaint of shoplifting at a local business. The value of the alleged stolen items exceeds $2000.00.

Police had responded to the Robert Angus Drive area business on a complaint that a person was in the store and was on conditions not to be. Staff provided a description of the suspect and advised that she had been in the possession of a shopping cart full of merchandise.

Police located the accused in the area of the Amherst Industrial Park pushing a cart allegedly full of stolen items. The accused allegedly tried to run but was arrested. Police also executed an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on a previous theft charge in Amherst NS from an incident on March 18th, 2026.

Nellie Landry, aged 29 has been charged with:

- Theft under $5000 – 334(b) CC
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – 354(1)(a) CC
- Resisting arrest – Section 129(a) CC
- Breach of Probation – 733.1(1) CC

Landry was held overnight in APD custody and was scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on May 22nd, 2026.

Female Facing Impaired Driving Charges

2026-05-21

A 21-year-old New Brunswick woman is facing impaired driving charges as a result of an incident on May 20th, 2026 shortly after 8:00pm.

Amherst Police were contacted shortly after 8:00pm regarding a vehicle had almost caused an accident in the downtown area and was running through stop signs on Willow Street. The vehicle continued and passed several vehicles on Robert Angus Drive before striking a curb and damaging a tire. The complainant provided information to the police on the vehicle and driver’s whereabout and the driver was arrested on the outskirts of town. The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested by Police for impaired driving. The driver was given the breath demand by Police and was returned to the Police station for testing. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

As a result of this incident, the female driver is facing several charges that include impaired driving. She has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on July 20th, 2026 at 09:30am in relation to the charges.

Impaired driving is a serious issue in Nova Scotia and presents a danger to our community and is one of the leading causes of deaths on our highways. If you suspect that a driver is impaired, call the Police or 911
