📢 LAND CODE MEMBER ENGAGEMENT UPDATE

The ‘Na̱mg̱is Land Code Member Engagement Session originally scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2026, is being rescheduled out of respect for the family and to allow community members to attend the funeral taking place that day.

A new date has not yet been confirmed. Members will be notified as soon as the updated session details are available.

📢 Community Notice | Polaris Land Surveying

The ‘Na̱mg̱is First Nation Lands & Infrastructure Department is advising Members that Polaris Land Surveying will be working throughout ‘Na̱mg̱is reserve lands from October 26 – November 6, 2026.

Surveyors may need to access residential yards to locate survey monuments and collect preliminary data as part of the Legacy Issues Project.

📋 Short-Term Employment Opportunity

Lands & Infrastructure is also seeking a community-minded individual, preferably a ‘Na̱mg̱is Member, to provide on-site support as a ‘Na̱mg̱is Survey Liaison during the surveying work.

Interested applicants can submit an expression of interest and résumé to [email protected] or drop off their résumé with Gina Wadhams at the Lands & Infrastructure Building.

The Community Survey Liaison will provide on-site support and liaison services during upcoming land survey work conducted by Polaris Land Surveying.

2026 ‘Na̱mg̱is Referendum – Engagement Sessions

Referendum Engagement Sessions will be held for ‘Na̱mg̱is registered voting members from October 18–21 in Alert Bay, Nanaimo, Victoria, and the Vancouver/Richmond area.

Dinner will be provided at each session.

The Referendum Vote regarding the proposed Settlement Agreement for the Cormorant Island Specific Claim will be held on November 6, 2026.

Proposed ʼNa̱mg̱is Land Code Amendments – Engagement Reminder

A reminder to ʼNa̱mg̱is Members that the first information session on the proposed Land Code amendments will take place virtually on Thursday, September 10 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

Two in-person information sessions are also planned for October:

📅 October 15 – Starts at 5:00 PM at Council Hall
📅 October 25 – 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM at Lawrence Ambers Memorial Recreation Centre

Members are encouraged to attend, learn more about the proposed amendments and ask questions.

The fishing vessel is on its way!

‘Na̱mg̱is Natural Resources confirms that members can begin arriving for G̱wax̱’nis (Chum) Salmon pickup at 12:30 PM TODAY at the Government Dock in Alert Bay.

Pickup only — no delivery available.

UPDATE (OCTOBER 12): Members can now arrive for chum salmon pickup at 12:30 PM today at the Government Dock in Alert Bay. The previously announced pickup information has been updated.

🐟 G̱wax̱’nis (Chum) Salmon Distribution Update — DATE CHANGE

‘Na̱mg̱is Natural Resources has confirmed that chum salmon distribution has been moved to Monday, October 12, 2026 (Thanksgiving Day), as the fishing vessel is not expected to return until late tonight.

📅 Monday, October 12
🕦 Distribution begins at 11:30 AM
📍 Government Dock, Alert Bay

The fish will be offloaded beginning at 11:00 AM, with distribution starting at 11:30 AM.

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
- There will be NO distribution today, Sunday, October 11.
- Pickup only — no delivery will be available.
- Members should arrive for distribution beginning at 11:30 AM tomorrow.
