Summer is here and we are excited to announce we now have even more Genesis Place Passes available!

Starting June 1st, the City of Airdrie has generously added extra borrowable Genesis Place passes for seniors, adults, youth, children, and families, bringing our total to 10 for each category.

This means wait times will be reduced for all passes, with a specific focus on significantly shortening the wait for family and adult passes. Seniors’, youth, and children’s passes already have shorter wait times and could be available as early as this summer.

To put a pass on hold, search “Airdrie Genesis Place recreation pass” in TracPac.

A big thank you to Councillor Candice Kolson for her continued advocacy and Together Airdrie Thrives for initiating this program.

Bill 28 has passed, and it’s not a question of if it will affect you, but rather how much it will affect you.

Bill 28 will change how families access public libraries by creating more barriers to materials and services.

The government will now have the power to decide which library materials are restricted by age across Alberta libraries, leaving many questions unanswered.

How many materials will be restricted?
How will ages be verified?
How will we manage parental permissions with varying family dynamics?
How will digital resources be affected?
Who will pay for these changes?
And another big question: what other changes will this lead to in the future?

Right now, decisions about library collections and access are made locally by library boards and trained staff based on community needs. Bill 28 shifts that authority to the province. A single minister will have the power to set access rules for all 324 library service points across the province, backed by inspection and enforcement powers.

To stay informed on how these changes will affect you and how to take action, visit caplibraries.ca.

Big changes happened last year for the Airdrie Public Library — like moving into our new home in Inspire — but even bigger changes are happening this year because of Ryder and Cryder!

Through their conversations and big imaginations, Ryder and Cryder realized that fitting a billion people over for a sleepover would require building an entirely new basement. Construction starts next week!

Okay… maybe not. But what do you expect when you put a librarian and a kid together? Big dreams are bound to happen.

While a giant basement sleepover may not be in the plans, something big is happening…our 2025 Report to the Community is here!

Read the Ryder and Cryder story and explore the highlights, milestones, and impact from one of our biggest chapters yet.

Here’s to an exciting 2026!
