Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System

Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System Serving the Information Needs of Northern Saskatchewan. http://www.pahkisimon.ca There are 12 First Nations, 37 municipalities and 3 provincial school divisions.

Because the north is unique in lifestyle, geography and culture, it is important to express togetherness through a library organization directed by northerners which
promotes cultural awareness and education through a stong united voice. Services include access to in-province library collections, board development, consultation, coordinating interlibrary loans, library staff development/training,

library training bursary, newsletters (Word'sWorth), on-line access to magazine databases and e-books, assistance to member librarians, on site training and work bees. The Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System was created in 1990 under the Ministry of Education of the Conservative government then in power. With the education connection, it was easier to implement the suggestions that the System should include all Northern Saskatchewan schools, post-secondary institutions, and public libraries. This reflects a basic philosophy of the North that regards all people and most institutions as part of the education system. Northern people are truly lifelong learners with parents and children often attending school at the same time. 87% of the population in our region are aboriginal. 27% of our population is Métis. 58% of the population lives on reserves. The majority of aboriginal people in Northern Saskatchewan speak Cree, Dene or Michif. The services and programs of PNLS are available to both band and provincial communities on an equal basis.

Good morning, everyone,

Due to an extreme weather event currently impacting most of the region and preventing attendee travel, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone this year's Annual General Meeting to Saturday, May 9, 2026.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this rescheduling may cause, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, May 9!

Many thanks again to CBC Saskatchewan for their recent news segment about our Archival Historian, Graham Guest:

Many thanks again to CBC Saskatchewan for their recent news segment about our Archival Historian, Graham Guest:

Where do you see yourself at 90? La Ronge resident Graham Guest, still working as an archival historian, says the job keeps him young.

Good afternoon, everyone,

The 2026 PNLS Annual General Meeting (AGM) is quickly approaching; hard to believe we're almost to the end of March already!

As we've previously announced on this page and on the PNLS website, the 2026 PNLS AGM will take place at PNLS Headquarters in Air Ronge on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with a start time of 9:30 AM. Trustees who are new to PNLS or new to being a board member are also encouraged to attend our New Trustee Orientation Session with PNLS Director James Hope Howard, which will begin at 9:00 AM that same morning.

All member public libraries, member school libraries, member school divisions, member educational authorities and member post-secondary institutions have now been issued their 2026-2027 PNLS Board of Trustees Appointment Form. To ensure that we have accurate numbers for hotel registration, we ask that any members who have not already done so please submit your Board Appointment Form no later than the end of this week.

(If you have not yet received your 2026-2027 Board of Trustees Appointment Form from us, please contact us as soon as possible and we will send your form to whichever email address or fax number will work best for you.)
