Fire Safety in Our Territory

We kindly ask all visitors to our territory to please refrain from having any fires at this time. Our lands and forests are dry, and even a small spark can have devastating impacts on the environment, wildlife, and our communities.

If you see anyone with a fire, please report it immediately and, if it is safe to do so, kindly approach them and ensure the fire is put out right away.

Your cooperation helps protect this beautiful place we all cherish. Thank you for respecting our land, our people, and the safety of all who call this place home.

Good afternoon Adventurers,

I’m excited to share an update and sneak peek at the important work underway on the Wild Side Trail!

MHSS recently collaborated with the Wilderness Committee, BC Parks, and our friends at Friends of Carmanah Walbran to complete the first phase of a major trail rebuild. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to stewardship, respect for the land, and ensuring sustainable access to the beauty and cultural significance of Ahousaht territory.

We are proud to share that your stewardship dollars have been directly invested into critical repairs and maintenance of the Wild Side Trail. Thanks to this support, we have been able to improve trail safety, enhance environmental resilience, and strengthen the connection between visitors and this sacred landscape.

The first phase of the project is now complete, focusing on restoring worn sections of the trail and reinforcing key infrastructure. The second phase is already on the horizon, and we look forward to continuing this important work.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s been accomplished so far — more updates will follow as we move into the next phase!

Thank you for your continued support and for walking alongside us in the stewardship of our lands and waters.

Kleco Kleco,

Wildside is officially open, we are excited to see you all in the territory.

Today, we hit the Wildside Trail for a reconnaissance to assess needed repairs. Over the next few weeks and months we’ll be tackling boardwalk repairs, clearing debris, and working with a fire crew to remove fallen trees. Huge thanks to our partners at BC Parks, the Wilderness Committee, and our dedicated MHSS staff for their support in keeping this trail safe and accessible. Stay tuned for updates!
