This evening, the Sts’ailes Fire Department responded to an unattended burn pile measuring approximately 3.5m x 3.5m. SFD arrived on scene and safely extinguished the fire.

This is a reminder to the community that the fire ban is still currently in effect. Even during rainy weather, fire bans remain active until officially lifted.

Category 1 campfires are expected to be permitted again starting Friday, May 15 at noon. Category 2 and 3 will still be prohibited.

We had multiple people notifying SFD members through Messenger regarding today’s fire. We appreciate everyone looking out for the community, but if you are reporting a fire or emergency concern, please call the Fire Department directly at 604-796-2888.

Please continue to follow all fire restrictions and help keep our community safe.

We’re often asked how the public can support our firefighters.

Beyond kindness and words of encouragement, the most meaningful support is helping make their job safer and more manageable.

🏡 FireSmart your home and property. Simple steps can significantly increase your home’s resilience to wildfire and reduce the risk of damage.

🔥 Help prevent wildfires. Be responsible with open fire and mindful of activities that can spark fires. Fewer human-caused fires means crews can focus on the ones that can’t be prevented.

When you reduce wildfire risk and protect your property, you’re not just helping yourself, you’re directly supporting the firefighters working to keep our communities safe.

Yesterday, we had a field trip visit from the SCC Grade 3s at the fire hall 🚒

Our Deputy Chief, Clint, spoke with the students about heat exhaustion and the importance of “Close Before You Doze.” The kids also got the chance to try on firefighting gear, explore the fire truck, and ask lots of great questions.

Thank you for spending the afternoon with us!

Today, our department responded to a Category 2 open fire measuring approximately 3m x 3m. The fire was located approximately 2 metres from surrounding brush and trees, and 6 metres from a nearby residence.

Upon arrival, crews found that there was no readily available water source or hose on site. For safety reasons, firefighters extinguished the fire and spoke with the homeowner about the importance of having water readily accessible and ensuring all open burning is attended at all times.

Open burning can quickly become dangerous when proper precautions are not in place.

Please help keep our community safe by following all local burning regulations and maintaining proper fire safety practices.

A big thank you to Kevin from Hemlock Fire Department for generously gifting us a fire behavior training dollhouse.

This training tool allows our department to study and better understand how fire behaves inside a structure. By using small, controlled burns, we can observe fire and smoke movement, the effects of ventilation, and overall fire behavior in a safe, controlled setting. It will be a valuable resource for ongoing training and skill development within our department. 🧯🔥

We truly appreciate the support and collaboration from our neighboring fire department.

Thank you again, Kevin — your generosity and support mean a lot to us.
