We run three programs: prison mentorship, No One Leaves Alone (NOLA), and Hidden Treasures Thrift Stores. Each aims to share inclusive, restorative love with people in prison, on parole, and in the community. No One Leaves Alone (NOLA) provides post-prison support by connecting people with the resources and relationships they need for successful community reintegration. Participants access support in five areas: housing, health, employment, education, and relationships. At Hidden Treasures people on parole, work release, or Escorted Temporary Absence (ETA) can gain employment experience alongside store staff and volunteers. Store proceeds help support our organization.

Why does prison mentorship matter?

For Andrew, the answer comes back to something simple: the men inside are people, deserving of love, dignity, and meaningful relationships.

Through prison mentorship, volunteers have the opportunity to share the love of Christ, walk alongside people who are incarcerated, and encourage growth and change over time.

For Andrew, one thing has remained constant throughout M2W2’s 60 years: a love for God and a genuine love and respect for people impacted by incarceration.

He sees it today in the volunteers who walk into prisons simply wanting to listen, encourage, and build relationships with the men they meet.

“They just view them as regular fellas. They’re just there to help.”

That spirit of compassion has been part of M2W2 since 1966, and it continues through volunteers who choose to show up and care.

Andrew has seen firsthand how faith can bring peace, even in the middle of difficult circumstances.

He remembers mentoring a man who was focused on moving forward, getting parole, and getting out. As the man began to follow Christ, Andrew saw a change. He became calmer, more at peace with himself and his circumstances, and more trusting that his life was in God’s hands.

For Andrew, witnessing that transformation was a powerful reminder of the hope that can grow through faith and relationship.

What does a second chance actually look like?

Sometimes it looks like being trusted with responsibility again. Being welcomed into a community. Having people who believe you can make different choices, even when you’re still learning to believe it yourself.

For people carrying the weight of their past, forgiveness can be difficult to accept. But faith reminds us that our past does not have to determine how we live today.

“They’re just people, and in many cases, they’re just looking for some hope.”

As M2W2’s NOLA Case Manager, Dan Rempel walks alongside people as they transition from incarceration back into the community. He has seen how a caring relationship, a listening ear, and steady encouragement can help someone find their footing and move forward.

Through NOLA, volunteers help people pursue their goals, build healthy relationships, and find a community where they know they belong.

Sometimes, hope begins with someone willing to be present.
