Today is World Refugee Day, a time to honour the courage, strength, and resilience of people who have been forced to leave their homes to escape violence or persecution.

This year, the United Nations Refugee Agency is highlighting the right to seek safety as a fundamental protection we all share. Ensuring support and protection for refugees not only saves lives, but also strengthens communities and promotes lasting stability.

As a community, showing empathy and understanding helps us recognize the importance of safety, dignity, and belonging and reminds us that everyone deserves a place where they can live free from fear.

At Archway, our Safe Haven Refugee Claimant Support Services help address the complex needs of refugee claimants and other humanitarian newcomers in the Fraser Valley.

🌈 Pride Season is here! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

June kicks off a time to celebrate the vibrant history, culture, and contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. It’s also a moment to reflect on the legacy of the Stonewall Riots in 1969, an event that ignited a global movement for 2SLGBTQI+ rights and continues to inspire change today.

Pride shows up in so many powerful ways, through parades, art, advocacy, learning, and joy. It’s about lifting each other up, making space for all voices, and standing together to challenge discrimination while building more inclusive, accepting communities.

At Archway, we stand with the 2SLGBTQI+ community. By fostering visibility, safety, and celebration of our 2SLGBTQI+ co-workers, family members, and neighbours, we are are in alignment with our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) goals to build a more inclusive and equitable community for all.

Here are a few ways to take part and show your support:
✨ Join local Pride events, parades, or community celebrations
✨ Connect with 2SLGBTQI+ friends, family, neighbours, and elders
✨ Learn about the community’s history and current issues and share that knowledge
✨ Support 2SLGBTQI+ owned businesses

While Pride Season is a time of celebration and visibility, it is important to remember that activism and support is not a seasonal activity, particularly in the face of rising hate crime rates against the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

When school ends next Thursday, hundreds of kids in Abbotsford will lose access to the breakfasts and lunches they rely on all year long. That’s where our community steps in.

Our Summer Starfish Pack Program helps bridge that gap for children in Abbotsford, ensuring they continue to receive food through July and August. This summer we're expecting more than 500 students to sign up. It’s all made possible by the generosity of people like YOU right here in our community.
