🎄✨ This holiday season, be your own best friend. ✨🎄

Self-compassion is often misunderstood. It’s not:
❌ Self-pity
❌ Self-indulgence
❌ Making excuses
❌ Just self-esteem

It is:
💛 Inclusive
💛 Connected
💛 Honest
💛 Resilient

It means treating yourself with the same care and understanding you would offer a good friend.

The holidays can be stressful, and the New Year often brings pressure to “fix” everything at once. Instead, consider one small, constructive action you can take today - something achievable that supports your well-being. Over time, these small steps add up.

✨ Gentle Mantra for the Season:
“Times are tough, and I will get through it—one step at a time. Everyone experiences challenges, and I can be kind to myself. Life is rarely black or white, and I will honour the shades of grey. I will build rituals of connection and make space for what is meaningful to me.”

💌 I’m Samantha Cowx, a counselling student offering free to low-cost support. If you’d like guidance in cultivating self-compassion or navigating life’s challenges, feel free to reach out. Let’s practice kindness together.

Doing What You Love Is Never a Waste of Time

Too often, we feel pressure to be productive, to stay busy, or to meet others’ expectations. But true fulfillment comes when we honor what lights us up from within.

Whether it’s painting, writing, connecting with others, or simply taking time to rest—your joy matters.

In counselling, we often uncover what truly brings you peace and purpose. And here’s the truth:
👉 Following your passions is not selfish. It’s healing.

🌱 Need space to explore what brings you joy?
Let’s talk. Your time is valuable. Your passions are valid.
You are not a waste of time.

Hi, I’m Samantha 👋🏽 – a master’s student and counselor-in-training 💛. I am an Indigenous woman, and the teachings of my Métis-Cree heritage guide how I value connection, community, and holding space for others 🌿. I’ve navigated life’s ups and downs and learned from my experiences — counseling has improved my quality of life and shapes how I hold space for others ✨

I offer a welcoming, non-judgmental space where people can feel seen, heard, and supported.

When I’m not working or studying, you might find me riding my motorcycle 🏍️, enjoying time by the water 🌊, cozying up with my dogs 🐾 and a blanket, or doing a little scrapbooking when the mood strikes. I also love cozy traditions, quality time with family, and traveling ✈️❤️.

Learning, growing, and holding space 🌱 | Métis-Cree roots 🌿 | Lover of sunny rides 🏍️, cozy blankets 🐾, and rom-coms 🎥 | 20+ yrs walking alongside others 💛

You smile. You show up. You keep it together. You get things done.

But no one sees the energy it takes just to seem “okay.”

It’s not weakness — it’s exhaustion from masking or performing. But deep down, you’re tired. Not just physically… emotionally.

Tired of pretending. Tired of saying “I’m fine” when you’re not. Tired of managing everything and your own quiet unraveling.

Here’s the truth: keeping it together doesn’t mean you’re okay. And needing support doesn’t make you weak — it makes you human.

Therapy gives you permission to stop pretending.
To actually feel.
To breathe.
To say, “I’m not okay… and I want something better.”

Room to be real, messy, and supported.

If that sounds like what you’ve been craving — we are here!

🌿 What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy?
IFS is a powerful approach that helps you understand the different “parts” within yourself—like the inner critic, the people-pleaser, or the wounded child. It teaches you to listen to these parts with compassion instead of judgment.

💛 Why it’s helpful:
By building a relationship with your inner parts, you can heal past wounds, reduce internal conflict, and feel more calm, confident, and connected.

Ready to meet your inner team? Let’s talk. DM or call/text 6048540802 for more information or to book an appointment.

Meet Courtney! We asked her some fun questions to get to know her a little better. Read below

Video game I am playing right now:
I’m currently playing Sims 4 & through Ghost Recon Wildlands! 🎮

Favourite place to grab a bite to eat in Abbotsford:
I have a HUGE sweet tooth so After Thoughts for a slice of cheesecake or Banter Ice Cream.🍦

Best way to spend a Sunday morning:
The best weekend morning is a slow one filled with brunch foods and a cozy book. I love taking a moment to watch the trees sway or the flowers blooming. 📚🌷🍳

I’m excited to work with this type of client:
I’m passionate about clients who feel a disconnect between their head and heart. Maybe your head says to “just push through it” or “it’s not that big of a deal”, but you feel overwhelmed, stuck, numb, or any other uncomfortable emotion. Maybe this is related to an experience of trauma, grief & loss, or relationship issues. Or maybe this is related to feeling not yourself anymore. I’m here to help navigate the confusion & conflict, while exploring what makes you authentically you. ✨

🌍 Coping with Uncertainty in a Chaotic World 🌿

In times when the world feels heavy and unpredictable, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. From global crises to personal challenges, the constant flux can trigger anxiety and stress. But there are ways to ground ourselves and find peace amidst the storm.

Here are a few strategies to help you cope:

Focus on What You Can Control ✨
In moments of uncertainty, we often focus on everything we can’t change. Shift your attention to what is within your control—your routine, your self-care, your mindset.

Practice Mindfulness & Grounding 🧘‍♀️
Take a few deep breaths. Use grounding techniques like feeling the earth beneath your feet or focusing on the sounds around you. These moments of presence can help soothe anxious thoughts.

Set Boundaries with News 📱
While it’s important to stay informed, it’s okay to take breaks from the constant stream of news. Choose specific times to check in and then step away to protect your mental health.

Lean Into Connection 🤝
Reach out to loved ones, whether through a phone call or a simple message. Sharing how you feel and listening to others can foster a sense of community and belonging.

Practice Self-Compassion 💖
Be gentle with yourself. It’s okay not to have all the answers or to feel uneasy. Embrace the uncertainty and show yourself the same kindness you would offer a friend.

Remember, it’s okay to not have it all figured out. In times of uncertainty, we grow stronger by taking small steps toward balance and self-care.

You are not alone in this.

I’m a bookworm 📚 give me all the books all the time! So I thought it might be fun to do a recommendation on fictional books that have themes of mental health and counselling. These are a few books that moved me - queue the water works, laughter, and inspiration.

1. Collected Regrets of Clover – Mikki Brammer
2. The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot – Marianne Cronin
3. The Midnight Library – Matt Haig
4. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman
5. Queenie – Candice Carty
6. This Is How It Always Is – Laurie Frankel

What are some books that you would add to this list? 📖
