𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲

Business Botswana and the Ministry of Water and Human Settlement BW held a Sector High-Level Consultative Council Meeting this morning, co-chaired by Honourable Onneetse Ramogapi and Business Botswana Sector Chairperson, Ms Bonolo Phometsi.

The meeting focused on opportunities for private sector participation in the water and human settlement value chains, including investable projects, the Bonno Programme, waste management and regulatory compliance. Business Botswana remains committed to strengthening public-private dialogue and partnerships that support investment, sustainable development and meaningful private sector participation.

A great reflection of the growing business ties between Botswana 🇧🇼 and Oman🇴🇲

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Botswana signed nine agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to Botswana.

The agreements and MoUs cover general cooperation, political consultations, the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and special passports, air services, investment promotion, medicines security and regulatory cooperation.

They also include cooperation on pharmaceutical supply and investment, mining exploration, energy security and regional energy development, as well as a memorandum of understanding between Business Botswana and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐁 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚

Business Botswana hosted one of its members, the Association Of Consulting Engineers Botswana - ACEB, to discuss issues affecting the sector and its economic contribution. ACEB President, Engineer Goodwill Madibela, and CEO Ms Lillian Mosimaneotsile expressed appreciation for Business Botswana’s role in representing and advocating for private sector development.

The discussion covered; impact of the Employment and Labour Relations (ELR) Act, which took effect on 1st September 2026, with concerns that some provisions don’t fully account for the project based nature of consulting engineering. The Development Manager (DM) Model update post the task force’s work was also sought. The delayed review of the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) Act cropped up with calls for the process to be expedited. There was a consensus to push for more effective consultations by Government and for more opportunities seek for the sector especially within the SADC trade in services Protocol.

Business Botswana CEO, Ms Tumi Mbaakanyi, acknowledged the concerns raised and noted the organisation’s cordial relationship with Government allowing for continuous engagements towards solutions that enable the private sector. The ACEB was encouraged to continue using its Business Botswana membership to raise sector concerns and to use the organisation’s advocacy and engagement platforms.

As part of the State Visit to Botswana, His Majesty Haitham Bin Tarik, Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman, this morning Business Botswana joined Government Ministries and Institutions at a signing ceremony for a series of Agreements and MoUs with Omani counterparts.

Business Botswana signed an MoU with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to, among others, strengthen business ties, expand market and trade opportunities, facilitate trade missions and connect businesses and entrepreneurs from both countries.

Business Botswana (BB) and the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs (MLHA) held a Sectoral High-Level Consultative Council (SHLCC) meeting yesterday, co-chaired by Major General (Rtd) Honourable Pius Mokgware and the Acting BB Sector Chair, Mr Bernard Ditlhabi.

The engagement focused on key priorities affecting business facilitation, trade and economic development, including work and residence permits, 24-hour border operations, visa regimes, and skills development.

Among the proposals discussed was the introduction of 24-hour operations at Ramokgwebana, Ramatlabama, Tlokweng and Martins Drift border posts, alongside the development of relevant language capabilities, including French and Mandarin, among border and Ministry personnel.

Business Botswana continues to champion constructive public-private dialogue and practical solutions that support a competitive, connected and business-friendly environment.

This afternoon, the Enviroment and Tourism Sectoral High-Level Consultative Council (SHLCC) met to strengthen Government and Private Sector collaboration to advance the tourism and environmental sectors.

Co-chaired by the Minister of Enviroment and Tourism, Hon Wynter Mmolotsi and Business Botswana’s Sector Chairperson, Ms Lily Rakorong, the discussions focused on reducing barriers to doing business, unlocking investment, creating sustainable jobs and strengthening Public-Private Partnerships.

Key issues included tourism lease concessions, Chobe congestion, illegal operators, permit delays, tourism leakages, the Tourism Master Plan and ongoing legislative reforms as well as Meetings/Incentives/Conferences/ Events (MICE).

The meeting also reinforced the need to make tourism and environmental resources work more effectively for businesses and create more opportunities for Batswana.
