Kweneng District Council (KwDC) Chairman, Hon. Ontefetse Rankhibidu, today met with the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) Molepolole Service Centre management to receive an update on the water supply situation in Molepolole.
This engagement forms part of the Council chairmans Five-Year Strategic roadmap,particularly "From Dry Taps to Full Cups"project, which seeks to address water shortage across Kweneng District through collaboration with key stakeholders.
When giving welcome remarks, Hon. Ontefetse Rankhibidu acknowledged that there has been noticeable improvement in water supply across Molepolole. He however, stressed that some areas continue to face water shortages and recurring water leakages, calling for sustained efforts to resolve the remaining challenges.
When giving an operational update, Molepolole Service Centre General Manager, Mr. Mpho Tsotetsi, said water availability has improved significantly through a combination of surface and groundwater sources. He highlited that service disruptions persist in some areas due to pipe blockages, pipe bursts, illegal water connections and the theft of brass water meters.
Mr. Tsotetsi revealed that approximately 1,700 water meters have been stolen since the year 2024, describing meter theft as one of the major challenges affecting service delivery and revenue collection.
He said as a way to improve water supply, WUC has intensified maintenance of pipes, implemented pressure management through zone networks, deployed water bowsers in places where there is water scarcity, and adopted the Letsema resource-sharing initiative to accelerate new water connections.
This meeting reaffirms the commitment of KwDC and WUC in working together to deliver reliable water services and ensure that every household in Molepolole has access to water.
