CELEBRATING UNITY AND INCLUSION

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the students, staff, and board members of 2 Military Garrison Day Care Center in Francistown joined the rest of the continent in commemorating the Day of the African Child by giving back to the community.

The school community visited the Francistown Centre for the Deaf to donate essential toiletries and school uniforms. This handover directly aligns with this year’s regional theme: "Ensuring Universal Access To Water, Sanitation And Hygiene For Every Child In Africa."

The donation, which included Vaseline Blueseal, tracksuits, socks, toothpastes and toothbrushes, was achieved through a rapid fundraising drive. The initiative received strong support from BDF’s 2 Brigade Group members, staff, board members, parents, and the learners themselves.

ONE MONTH IN REMEMBRANCE

Our picture of the month goes to our honourable send-off of the Former President of the Republic of Botswana and former Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Festus Gontebanye Mogae. Today marks one month since we honourably committed him to soil, a son of Botswana, a soldier’s Commander-in-Chief, and a father of the nation.

As Commander-in-Chief, he wore “Thebe ya Sechaba” not just as a title, but as a duty. He led with calm authority, deep respect for discipline, and unwavering commitment to peace and sovereignty. Under his leadership, the BDF grew in professionalism and was entrusted with protecting our democracy and borders.

Beyond the barracks, he served Botswana with intellect and humility, steering our economy, championing HIV/AIDS response, and showing the world what principled leadership looks like.

One month later, the silence of his absence is heavy. But his legacy speaks louder, integrity in service, love for country, and dignity in all things.

To the BDF family, to Batswana, and to all whose lives he touched, let us honour him by upholding the values he stood for.

As we dedicate the picture of the month to our former Commander in Chief, we remember. We honour, and we will not forget.

STRENGTHENING DEFENCE PROCUREMENT FOR A CAPABLE & FRUGAL BDF

The Directorate of Defence Procurement partnered with the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority for a strategic workshop at the SSKB Officers’ Mess to enhance BDF procurement processes.

Opening the session, Director General Support Services Maj Gen Molefi Seikano highlighted that procurement is a critical strategic enabler for national security that demands strict financial prudence. Aligning with the Commander’s priority of frugality, he urged personnel to maximize resource efficiency without compromising operational readiness.

To build capacity across all camps, PPRA deployed an expert delegation including Mr Temo Ontuetse, BDF Desk Officer, Mr Lefoko Ramoatlhodi, and Mrs Seneweng O’Reilly-Konji. This collaboration reinforces clarity, consistency and transparency to ensure the BDF procurement lifecycle upholds the highest standards of integrity, accountability and public trust.
