PRESS RELEASE – BOTSWANA DEFENCE FORCE SENIOR OFFICERS PROMOTIONS

1. The Botswana Defence Force is pleased to inform members of the public that
the President of the Republic of Botswana and Commander-in-Chief, Advocate
Duma Gideon Boko, has, pursuant to Section 48(2)(b) of the Constitution of the
Republic of Botswana read with Section 28(1) of the Botswana Defence Force Act
No. 3 of 2018, appointed on promotion the following senior officers to the rank of
Brigadier:
a. Colonel (Dr) Luckie Steven Thaga
b. Colonel Stephen Magosi Moshagane
2. The above senior officers have been subsequently appointed as the
Commandant, Defence Command and Staff College and the Defence Advisor,
Ministry of State President, Defence and Security respectively.

3. In addition, the President has appointed on promotion 19 Officers from the
rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel and 66 Officers of the rank of Major were
promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The promotions take effect from 1
August 2026.

4. The Commander, Botswana Defence Force, Officers, Non Commissioned
Officers and non uniformed personnel of the BDF would like to congratulate the
newly promoted officers in their ranks and appointments.

ADVANCING THE WOMEN, PEACE, AND SECURITY AGENDA IN BOTSWANA

The Training of Trainers for Military Gender Advisors (ToT-MGA) officially kicked off this morning at Protea Hotel Masa Square, Gaborone.

Organized by United Nations Institute for Training and Research and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF), the two-week program focuses on integrating gender perspectives into peace operations.

Guest of Honor at the opening cerenomy who is also the BDF Director of Training and Doctrine, Brigadier David Cullen Nkete officially opened the ceremony, underscoring the BDF's commitment to advancing gender integration, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering inclusive leadership across military peace operations. The program is facilitated under the leadership of Colonel Mosikari Maphane, Commandant of the BDF Peace Support Training Centre.

Delivering her remarks, Course Team Leader, Staff Sergeant Jennifer Schiffner emphasized that this course goes beyond standard training. She highlighted that participants are here as future agents of change, tasked with multiplying knowledge, shaping mindsets, and equipping military institutions to apply gender perspectives effectively in peace operations.

Through practical simulations, operational planning, and real-world case studies, these future trainers are preparing to lead, educate, and transform military operations for long-term impact.
