Botswana Railways yesterday received 12 refurbished traction motors from Namibia Armature Rewinders as part of our ongoing rehabilitation programme.

Traction motors are electric motors that power the wheels of a locomotive, making them essential to the movement and performance of our trains.

These motors are a key part of a 24-unit order, with the remaining 12 units sent out for refurbishment today.

While the 12 is not all units, they will substantially help improve the reliability and performance of our trains, ensuring better service for our customers.

This milestone supports our short-term strategy to improve fleet performance and longevity. It also contributes to greater operational efficiency, improved safety standards, and reduced maintenance costs and downtime, benefits that extend to both our operations and the customers we serve.

Our commitment to investing in our fleet ensures that we continue to provide the reliable transportation services.

Today, Botswana Railways Caretaker General Manager, Mr. Okitanye Gaogane, participated in the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) Safe Mobility Campaign in Palapye, where Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Hon. Noah Salakae was a Chief Runner.

The campaign promotes road safety awareness and responsible road use. As a key stakeholder, Botswana Railways recognizes the importance of improving safety at rail-road intersections, where accidents occur, and remains committed to working with partners to promote safer mobility for both road and rail users.
