Lobatse Town Council This page exist to ensure a two way communication between Lobatse Town Council and its key public. The council meets atleast every 2 months.

The township of Lobatse began to take shape from 1897 as a stop over at the junction of the Mafikeng to Bulawayo railway and Kanye to Zeerust. A further significant increase in the development of the town occured during the period just before the independence in 1966 as a result of the relocation of offices from the protectorate administration in Mafikeng. Today Lobatse is a fully fledged town, an

d serves as major commercial, industrial and communication centre for the southern region. Like other local authorities the Lobatse Town Council is responsible for the following; provision of primary infrastructure such as primary schools infrastructure and supplies, Provision of social welfare services including housing, The council also facilitates, controls and coordinates business and development activities. The Lobatse Town Council has 11 elected councilors and 2 specially elected councilors. The mayor and deputy mayor of the council are elected every two and half years during their five years tenure. This also applies to the four (4) council committees which are: Education, Health and Social services committee, housing and Physical Planning, committee, Audit and Finance and Works committee

A group of six young contestants stole the spotlight during the Mr and Miss June 16 Pageant, held as part of the Day of the African Child build-up activities in Lobatse today.

The youngsters impressed judges and spectators with their confidence, creativity, and stage presence.
The pageant featured Traditional Wear, Trash Fashion, and Evening Gown categories, attracting enthusiastic participation from learners representing various schools.

The programme was also packed with entertainment, including cultural dances and musical performances that kept the audience captivated throughout the day.

Among the winners, Lefika Moilwe of Pitikwe Primary School was crowned Mr June 16, while Melanie Afrikaner of Maitlamo Primary School was crowned Miss June 16 Queen. Keshia Kamodi of New Look Primary School won the 1st Princess title, while Mandy Bantsi, also of New Look Primary School, was named 1st Prince. Tlotso Kgosiemang of Peleng West Primary School was crowned 2nd Prince, while Mpho Kwelagobe of New Look Primary School was named 2nd Princess.

The winners walked away with attractive prizes. The 1st Prince and 1st Princess each received P300 and a Debonairs Pizza voucher, while the 2nd Prince and 2nd Princess each received P200 and vouchers. Those who did not reach the finals each received P150 as consolation prizes.

The build-up activity forms part of preparations for the Day of the African Child commemoration on June 16. Organisers said the event aimed to give children a platform to express themselves, showcase their talents, and celebrate their abilities.

The colourful event attracted parents, teachers, and community members, who turned out in large numbers to support the young participants and enjoy the dayโ€™s festivities.

A day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments unfolded today (11 June 2026) as Model Day Care Centre, under Lobatse Town Council, commemorated the International Day of Play with joy, learning, and lasting memories. The event was held under the theme: โ€œProtect Play, Protect Childhood.โ€

The centre reaffirmed that every child has the right to explore, laugh, learn, and enjoy the freedom of play in a safe environment. Such opportunities promote physical, social, and emotional development by improving coordination, communication, cooperation, and the ability to build relationships with others.

Activities of the day included a bucket race, scooter race, wheelbarrow race, balloon blowing, as well as songs and dancing.

Lobatse Town Council, through its Primary Health Care services is on the last day of the second round of the National Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign which started from 8th to 11th June 2026, the campaign targeted all children under five years (0โ€“59 months) across the town. Vaccination teams carried out house-to-house visits,health facilities and designated points to ensure no eligible child was missed.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring children who had vaccinated as well as those who had missed vaccination on the first round in May.

Mop up activity will conducted on the 12th June 2026.
