Batlhalefi and Moje Recognised For Outstanding Performance

Two staff members this morning were recognised for exceptional performance. A skip truck driver, Mr Moratakgosi Batlhalefi, who has been with Kanye District Council for the past 26 years, was showered with accolades for his dedication and commitment to duty. According to the Chief Public Health Officer, Mr Songa Mosweu, Mr Batlhalefi has demonstrated work ethic and professionalism in his ex*****on of his responsibilities. “His contribution to service delivery has been outstanding, ensuring that waste management operations are carried out efficiently and effectively, thereby contributing significantly to the department’s objective,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Principal Environmental Health Officer II Ramadi Moje was honoured for his dedication and ingenuity. Mr Mosweu said that despite working under limited budget, Moje has risen above challenges by finding solutions. He said that whether it’s the refuse compactors that are down or the landfill equipment has failed, he has always brought alternatives. “His resourcefulness has ensured that services continue without interruption, safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our community,” he said. Mr Mosweu said through Mr Moje’s initiatives, the department achieved an impressive income of P3.4 million, making it the highest revenue-generating department in the council. The Council Secretary Dr Joseph Banyatsang awarded the duo with appreciation certificates. Dr Banyatsang urged other staff members to be motivated and inspired to do more with less available resources.

The Kanye Road Safety Committee yesterday convened a prayer meeting at Mongala Mall ahead of holiday travel where majority of Batswana are expected to travel to various destinations for the President's Holidays.

Speaking at the event which attracted churches from different denominations, District Officer David Moeng noted the concerning number of Batswana who are involved in road accidents.

He said driver errors and pedestrian carelessness were a major worry as many Batswana lose their lives on the road. He advised Batswana to hold public transport drivers accountable and report careless driving.

Mr Moeng advised motorists to be safe on the roads which in a bad state. He advised them to be alert on the roads and avoid any distractions that could cause accidents.

Superintendent Sheila Bakwena says they have so far recorded one (1) fatal road accident in Kanye and six (6) serious accidents in 2026. She says there were 25 minor accidents with 29 minor casualties. In the same year, damages to cars without any fatalities were stood at 89 further stressing that these were from January to 15th July yesterday.

The Injury Prevention Supervisor at the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund Mr Balotlhanyi Tswape also noted that cases of road accident stood at 1.91 million worldwide with men experiencing the highest number of accidents.

He also urged Batswana to recognize that more money was been used in helping people affected in road traffic accidents taking away from other resources.

Every Step Counts | 1000KM Walk for Change

Today, the 1000km Walk for Change completed its final stretch from Lotlhakane to Kanye Main Kgotla, marking the successful conclusion of an inspiring journey dedicated in raising awareness about alcohol and substance abuse while mobilising support for the establishment of a rehabilitation centre.

Led by Kenneth Siele, Founder of the Kenneth & Evelyn Siele Trust Fund, the initiative brought together communities and stakeholders from across Botswana in a shared commitment to promoting mental wellness, preventing substance abuse and restoring hope

The Kanye District Council Wellness Team was honoured to stand alongside Kenneth Siele, stakeholders and members of the community in support of this meaningful initiative, reaffirming the commitment to building healthier, safer and more resilient communities.

KANYE DISTRICT COUNCIL’S ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT VISIT NARDI

The Kanye District Council Environmental Health Department this morning visited the National Agricultural Research and Development Institute (NARDI) to gain further insight into the organization’s operations and research.

The visit forms part of the Council’s Environmental Health Division’s ongoing efforts to identify possible areas of collaboration in service delivery with other organizations.

According to the Principal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Moffat Monageng, the key areas of interest at NARDI include research in the food industry, training for food handlers, and the testing of water and food. This is in line with the Council’s continued efforts to enhance food safety and handling standards in the District.

The Director for Food Science and Technology at the Kanye Branch, Dr. Minah Mosela, stressed the importance of knowledge exchange and collaboration as vital to advancing sustainable health and best practices for the District and beyond.
