As part of its continued efforts to create awareness among Public Officers, The Office of the Ombudsman-Maun recently conducted a sensitization meeting with staff of the North West District Council (NWDC) At Tshwaragano Junior Secondary School.

The session provided an opportunity for NWDC staff to gain a deeper understanding of the Ombudsman's functions.

The Office of the Ombudsman Botswana extends its appreciation to all stakeholders who participated in the Consultation Meeting on the Establishment of a Child Rights Desk, held on 30th July 2026. The meeting provided a valuable platform for sharing ideas, strengthening partnerships, and gathering views that will help shape a Child Rights Desk that complements and enhances existing child protection systems in Botswana.

CONSULTATION MEETING WITH STAKEHOLDERS ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CHILD RIGHTS DESK AT THE OFFICE OF THE OMBUDSMAN BOTSWANA

The Ombudsman, Adv. Stephen B. Tiroyakgosi, said the Stakeholder Consultation Meeting was convened to engage key stakeholders on the proposed Children's Desk. He noted that the consultation seeks to gather stakeholders' views, identify opportunities for collaboration, and ensure that the model developed complements and strengthens existing child protection systems within both Government and non-government institutions.

It is always inspiring to meet with people of high Stature and as a young boy or girl excelling in your education is every child's dream; to one day be like their role models and reach greater heights.

The Ombudsman Advocate Stephen Tiroyakgosi had the pleasure to meet with Mathangwane Primary School' s Best Achiever in Std 7 Mr. Judge Mbenge and Best Achiever in Std 6 Ms. Kimora Muzila Std 6.

Advocate Stephen Tiroyakgosi advised all the students on the educational tour that the world is full of possibilities and that if they study hard, they can be anything they wish to be in life. He also encouraged them to be respectful to their teachers and parents as well as be Responsible & Accountable citizens.

Mathangwane Primary School Tour

“As future leaders, professionals and responsible citizens we encourage you to uphold the values of honesty, integrity, fairness, respect and accountability in everything you do. These values are the foundation of a just and democratic society,” said the Acting Assistant Ombudsman – North Ms. Lebogang S. Mosarwana who yesterday had the pleasure to also interact the pupils from Mathangwane Primary School who were pleased to be in our premises.

She further encouraged the pupils to share this message with their friends, families and communities. This will help raise awareness about the role of the Ombudsman and the importance of respecting the Rights of others. The Acting Assistant Ombudsman – North also extended her gratitude to the teachers who plays an integral part in the learners’ lives; as they ensure that they give them the necessary skills and knowledge and help nurture the pupils into informed and responsible citizens.

The educational tour is a perfect adventure that exposes the learning institutions to Good Governance Practices, Promote Best Administrative Justice and Human Rights.
