Office of the Accountant General Brings Hope to Therisanyo Primary School

Therisanyo Primary School pupils had a memorable day as the Office of the Accountant General (OAG) donated essential items to support learners and promote a conducive learning environment.

Welcoming the delegation, the School Head, Mr. Segomotso Kejelepula, acknowledged the school's challenges but highlighted its resilience and commitment to academic excellence. He noted that despite operating in a disadvantaged community, the school achieved a 61.6% pass rate last year and continues to produce learners who progress to senior secondary and tertiary education.

Speaking at the event, the Accountant General Ms. Tebogo Tomango commended the teachers for their dedication in shaping well-rounded learners. She expressed appreciation for the opportunity to partner with Therisanyo Primary School, noting that the donation reflects the Office's commitment to supporting communities and investing in the future of Botswana's children.

The donation was officially handed over by Permanent Secretary, Dr. Tshokologo A. Kganetsano, who congratulated the school on its commendable academic performance and encouraged learners to remain focused on their education.

The donated items included: 30 student chairs,24 pairs of socks, 94 clothing items, 12 pairs of shoes and 10 packets of sanitary towels.

MINISTRY OF FINANCE COMMENCES 2027 BUDGET TECHNICAL MEETINGS

The Ministry of Finance has commenced the annual Budget Technical Meetings as part of the preparations for the 2027 National Budget, which will be presented to Parliament in February 2027. The Ministry appeared before the Technical Budget Committee this afternoon to present its budget proposals and priorities.

The meetings provide a platform for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to present their revenue projections, expenditure plans and priority projects for the forthcoming financial year.

The 2027 budget is being prepared against a challenging economic backdrop, characterised by lower-than-expected government revenues, the continued impact of Foot and Mouth Disease on the agricultural sector, projections of an El Niño-induced dry spell over the next 12 months, and an uncertain global geopolitical and economic environment.

During the engagements, the Technical Budget Committee emphasised that the National Budget must remain firmly anchored on realistic revenue projections. MDAs were urged to submit clear and well-substantiated revenue estimates, while identifying and explaining potential new revenue streams that could strengthen the country's fiscal position.

The Ministry of Finance was also reminded of the Government's ongoing fiscal consolidation and austerity measures. Director of Budget, Mr. Sinaice, reiterated that "MDA budget submissions should not exceed their current budget allocations," underscoring the need for prudent expenditure planning and disciplined resource management.

In closing, officials were reminded that the Budget Technical Meetings are a critical stage in the budget formulation process. They provide an opportunity to ensure that budget proposals are aligned with the priorities of the National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12), the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), and the broader mandate of the Ministry of Finance to promote sustainable economic growth and sound public financial management.

Vice President and Minister of Finance delivers keynote address at the ANB 6th Anniversary Gala

The Angel Network Botswana (ANB) marked its 6th Anniversary Gala Dinner on 31 July, where the Vice President and Minister of Finance Mr. Ndaba Gaolathe delivered the keynote address. In his remarks, he emphasised the significance of visionary entrepreneurs in driving economic growth and reaffirming government's commitment to building an enabling ecosystem for startups through the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme.

The Angel Network Botswana Chairperson Mythri Sambasivan-George reflected on the organisation's six year journey of strengthening Botswana's early stage investment ecosystem through partnerships with government and key institutions. She noted that ANB has supported over 80 startups across Africa while connecting founders with investors, mentors and strategic partners.

Adding to the discussion, Organic Naturals Skincare founder Didintle Moreki encouraged attendees to dedicate their time and expertise to mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs, highlighting the value of giving back to the startup community.
The evening concluded with a strong call to continue investing in Botswana's youth, recognising them as the country's greatest asset for future economic growth.
