Botswana was honored with the TAFISA Mission 2030 Award at the 29th TAFISA World Congress (3rd June 2026), in recognition of the Sport as a Gateway to Health initiative implemented through Special Olympics Botswana. Receiving the award was the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) CEO Mr Olebile Sikwane.

Special Olympics Botswana continues to make a meaningful impact through its Healthy Athletes Programme using sport as a powerful platform to address critical health needs. By providing health screenings and referral services, the initiative is improving access to essential care for people with intellectual disabilities and strengthening community wellbeing.

Botswana Select Ladies Volleyball Team got their Ditsala Volleyball International Cup campaign off to a winning start, defeating Zambia 3 sets to 1 this morning at Molapo Crossing.

The tournament features both ladies' and men's teams from Zambia, the United States of America, and hosts Botswana, promising thrilling volleyball action throughout the competition.

The excitement continues this afternoon, with more matches scheduled from 1630hrs at the Molapo Crossing Outdoor Square. Volleyball fans, come through and enjoy some exciting volleyball action as the teams are dishing out their best spikes.

𝗚𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝟬𝟰 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
The creative sector in Gumare, in collaboration with MoSA – Gumare District Office, organised a spiritual gathering that called on the community to unite in prayer against the social challenges and issues affecting both creatives and the wider community.

The event brought together people from different denominations and sectors of society, including Kgosi Kelebeletse Shuma, pastors, senior government officials, community members, and youth. The gathering served as a platform for spiritual reflection, unity, and collective support for the well-being of the community.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Mpho-Oagile, Arts Officer, outlined the objectives of the gathering and linked them to the day's activities. She emphasised the importance of prayer in everyday life and announced that the event would become an annual occasion, held under different themes each year.

The Gumare District Office expressed gratitude to the Gumare artists and creatives who dedicated their time, talent, and effort to ensure the event's success. Their commitment and participation played a vital role in making the day meaningful and impactful for all attendees.

Representing the Maun-based community arts and culture movement, Molosi leaves Gaborone enriched with invaluable knowledge, fresh perspectives, and practical insights that will help strengthen the creative sector.
