The Department of Water and Sanitation joined Bontleng Primary School in commemorating the Day of the African Child under the theme: โ๐๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ, ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐๐ด๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ณ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ.โ
Speaking at the event, Chief Sanitation Engineer Ms Seone encouraged learners to play an active role in protecting water sources, keeping toilets clean for the next user, and practicing regular handwashing to help create a safe and healthy environment for all.
She also urged school management to ensure that sanitation facilities remain clean, accessible, and inclusive for all learners, with particular attention to the needs of girls during menstruation and the provide appropriate disposal facilities to safeguard learnersโ health, dignity, and comfort.
The commemoration concluded with vibrant performances and a modelling showcase by learners, including a spirited Sarafina-inspired dance that celebrated the resilience, creativity, and aspirations of African children.
