5th LABOUR CONFERENCE LAUNCHED

ILES in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs yesterday ( 09.06.2026) held a press briefing about the upcoming 5th Labour Conference which is scheduled to be held on the 30 – 31st July 2026.

Speaking at the press briefing, Mr. Bumbanani Manewe said the new Labour Act, which was enacted in July 2025, is expected to strengthen the country's labour framework and enhance the management of labour issues.

Mr. Manewe highlighted that the new legislation is aligned with international labour standards, reflecting the country's commitment to promoting fair and effective labour practices between the employer and employees.He further updated that the new labour law will introduce social dialogue structure which deals with issues of employees and employers and dispute resolution structure. Mr Manewe also noted that the regulations required to operationalise the Act are still being drafted and are at an advanced stage.

This year’s conference theme is "Thinking Law into Practice: Implementing the Employment and Labour Relation Act in a Digital and Transforming Economy".
