💜 A New Chapter Begins.

The Alliance for Progressives Youth League (APYL) is proud to officially launch the Young Progressives Student Command (YPSC) a unified student movement bringing together all Alliance for Progressives-aligned tertiary institutions under one banner.

One movement. One identity. One vision.

The YPSC is committed to nurturing student leadership, advancing the principles of progressivism and pragmatism, and empowering young people to become active participants in shaping the future of Botswana.

Together, we will strengthen our presence across campuses, amplify the voice of students, and build a united generation of progressive leaders.

🟪 More Highlights from the Progressive Youth Retreat 2026

The Progressive Youth Retreat was further enriched by the presence of the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Helen Pushie Manyeneng and is the only serving female Member of Parliament from the Alliance for Progressives.

In her address, she passionately encouraged greater youth participation in politics, reminding delegates that young people have both the responsibility and the ability to shape Botswana’s future.

She delivered a special message to the young women in attendance, urging them to step forward with confidence, pursue leadership positions, and never allow fear or self-doubt to stand in the way of service. She emphasized that leadership knows no gender and that the future belongs to all who are willing to serve with courage, integrity, and purpose.

Her message was a powerful reminder that empowering young people, especially young women to lead today is essential to building the Botswana we aspire to achieve.

🟪 Insights from Our Party Leadership | Progressive Youth Retreat 2026 🟪

Delegates at the Progressive Youth Retreat had the privilege of learning from our Alliance For Progressives party leadership, including AP Vice President Hon. Wynter Mmolotsi, AP Chairperson Hon. Pius Mokgware, and AP Deputy Secretary General MK Phemelo Kedumele.

Their message was clear: understanding the Purple Vision and the doctrine of the Alliance for Progressives is fundamental to becoming an effective and conscious political participant. They emphasized that electoral readiness begins with political awareness, because before one can be a good voter, one must first be a conscious voter who understands both their own political movement and the broader political landscape.

A recurring theme throughout the discussions was the importance of character. Delegates were reminded that what distinguishes a progressive leader is not merely ambition, but character rooted in the values of progressivism and pragmatism. Leadership requires integrity, discipline, humility, and a commitment to serving others.

The leaders further emphasized that the essence of progressivism is ensuring that no one is left behind. Most importantly, they challenged the conventional notion that youth are merely leaders of tomorrow. The Alliance for Progressives believes that young people are leaders of today. As those who experience the realities and challenges facing their generation firsthand, young people are uniquely positioned to develop practical and innovative solutions to those challenges.

The retreat served as a powerful reminder that the future of Botswana depends on informed, principled, and pragmatic leadership and that the youth have a central role to play in building it.

🟪 A Few Nuggets of Wisdom from Our International Guest 🇿🇼

We were honored to receive insights from Hon Taurai Kandishaya, Chairman of the Africa Youth Congress (AYC), during the Progressive Youth Retreat 2026.

In his address, he emphasized the importance of youth participation in politics and economic development, reminding us that to build the Africa we want, we must first understand the Africa we have. Transformation begins where we are, not where we wish to be.

He described young people as the vanguard of political movements and economic transformation, the leading force at the forefront of shaping Africa’s future. He further reminded us that each of us is an ambassador of our country, carrying the responsibility to represent our values, aspirations, and potential.

Hon. Kandishaya also highlighted that the Alliance for Progressives’ guiding principles of progressivism and pragmatism are the fuel needed to help achieve the Botswana we want and the Africa we want. He commended delegates for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the retreat, noting that this commitment demonstrates an understanding that the future is in our hands and that the responsibility to shape it rests with us.

💜 The future belongs to a generation willing to learn, lead, serve, and build.
