CITY EXPLORES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The President of the Future Trends Group and Presidential Envoy on International Relations and Economic Development, Dr Farzam Kamalabadi, accompanied by his delegation, paid a courtesy call on His Worship The Mayor, Oarabile Motlaleng, to explore strategic partnerships aimed at supporting the City’s development agenda.

Welcoming the delegation, His Worship expressed appreciation for the engagement and the opportunities presented through the discussions. He noted that the proposed initiatives have the potential to contribute significantly to both the beautification of the city and its economic growth. Emphasising the importance of collaborative planning, the Mayor proposed a follow-up meeting involving all relevant stakeholders to allow for more comprehensive and productive discussions on the opportunities identified.

Deputy Town Clerk Operations, Ms Mosidi Batsalelwang, also expressed gratitude to the delegation for engaging the City on such a critical matter. She highlighted the City’s responsibility to ensure that Gaborone remains aesthetically appealing and conducive to attracting investment, noting that urban attractiveness plays a key role in positioning the city as a preferred destination for investors.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr Kamalabadi underscored the critical role of enterprise development in driving economic growth and creating opportunities. He emphasised that the accelerated implementation of local projects stimulates economic activity and creates a conducive environment for investment, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and prosperity.

GCC PROMOTES FOOD SAFETY AWARENESS IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY

Gaborone City Council (GCC) conducted an educational session for students and kitchen staff at Camp Primary aimed at promoting safe food handling practices and strengthening hygiene awareness as part of the World Food Safety Day commemoration.

The session highlighted the critical role that food safety plays in protecting health and preventing foodborne illnesses.

Students were educated on the importance of personal hygiene, food safety, and understanding food labels to help them make informed and healthy food choices.

Kitchen staff and cooks also received training on proper food handling procedures, safe food storage, hygiene standards, and the importance of maintaining high levels of personal cleanliness during food preparation and service.

GCC remains committed to promoting food safety and public health through continuous education and awareness initiatives.

GCC AND ORANGE BOTSWANA UNITE FOR A CLEANER GABORONE ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Gaborone City Council (GCC), received a donation of steel waste bins as well as a litter-picking campaign in Gaborone North by Orange Botswana, to commemorate World Environment Day.

Deputy Mayor of Gaborone, Honourable Mankie Sekete, welcomed the partnership and highlighted the importance of environmental education in preserving natural resources for future generations. She noted that the responsibility to protect the environment should be passed from one generation to the next, just as previous generations worked to safeguard it. The Deputy Mayor further encouraged everyone to embrace responsible waste management practices and actively participate in initiatives aimed at keeping the city clean and sustainable.

Speaking at the event, Orange Botswana Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Nene Maiga, highlighted the importance of preserving the environment and reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life of communities. She noted that environmental conservation requires collective action from all stakeholders and emphasized Orange Botswana's continued support for programs that contribute to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
