DEBSWANA WORLD ATHLETICS RELAYS GABORONE 26 DONATES MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO GCC
Following the successful hosting of the Debswana World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) has donated remaining medical supplies from the event to the Gaborone City Council (GCC), reinforcing the event’s enduring legacy beyond the track. The donated supplies will support the Council’s health facilities and contribute to strengthening healthcare service delivery for the people of Gaborone.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, His Worship the Mayor of Gaborone, Oarabile Motlaleng, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Debswana and the Local Organising Committee for the generous contribution. The Mayor noted that the donation would enhance the Council’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare services by ensuring that available resources are effectively utilised for the benefit of the community.
His Worship Motlaleng further commended the partnership between Debswana and Gaborone City Council, describing the donation as a meaningful demonstration of corporate social responsibility and a commitment to improving community wellbeing.The LOC Chairperson, Professor Martin Mokgwathi, also expressed appreciation to the Government of Botswana, Debswana, World Athletics, the Botswana National Olympic Committee, volunteers and all partners whose collective efforts contributed to the successful hosting of the World Athletics Relays.
Professor Mokgwathi noted that the donation forms an important part of the event’s lasting legacy, ensuring that its benefits extend beyond the competition and continue to positively impact the wider community.
GCC Chief of Pharmacy, Merrian Modutlwa, expressed gratitude to Debswana and the LOC for the donation, while acknowledging the contribution of all stakeholders whose collaboration made the successful hosting of the World Athletics Relays possible.
Ms Modutlwa further called for the continuation of strong partnerships that support sustainable community development and contribute to the advancement of healthcare services in Gaborone.
