Botswana Air Access team, yesterday, hosted delegates and stakeholders for a memorable golf day, focused on closing pending deals and advancing conversations initiated during the conference.


The Golf Day marked the conclusion of the three-day AviaDev Conference, fully sponsored by Botswana Oil Limited. It was a fitting finale, where partnerships were not only discussed but actively strengthened in a relaxed and engaging environment.


On behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), Mr. Modipe Nkwe highlighted the significance of the day, noting that it served as a celebration of the milestones achieved throughout the conference. โ€œThe Golf Day is a symbol of the partnerships we are buildingโ€”on the course as much as in the skies,โ€ he said.

Representing Botswana Oil Limited, Mr. Prince Nakedi emphasized the importance of platforms such as AviaDev. Over the past three days, the conference has hosted insightful discussions on key industry priorities, including aviation financing, aircraft leasing, airport investment opportunities, and innovative approaches to transforming tourism potential into sustainable air service demand.

The 2026 edition will formally conclude tomorrow morning with a wind-down session at the golf course, offering a relaxed environment for participants to finalize outstanding engagements and solidify emerging collaborations.

The final day of the conference began on an energetic note with a physical fitness charity run at the Botswana National Stadium, setting a positive tone for the dayโ€™s closing activities. Delegates took part in a 12-lap runโ€”one of AviaDevโ€™s initiatives aimed at promoting wellness alongside professional engagement.

Beyond fitness, the run encouraged informal networking and strengthened the spirit of collaboration that defined the conference. It also carried a meaningful cause, with AviaDev organisers donating USD 10,000 to the Dare to Dream Project.

Based at the Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub, the Dare to Dream Project is dedicated to empowering youth, women, and girls in aviation, aerospace, and entrepreneurship. Through initiatives such as educational tours, holiday programmes, and the upcoming Maun Aviation Week (10โ€“14 August 2026), the project is opening pathways for young Batswana into the aviation industry.

The opening ceremony commenced with welcome remarks from Captain Thuso Toise, CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB). In his address, he emphasized Botswanaโ€™s commitment to fostering long-term partnerships that unlock investment opportunities and drive route development.


Providing an overview of Botswana Air Access initiative, the Acting Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Hon. Keoagile Atamelang, extended sincere appreciation to CAAB and its industry partners. He encouraged delegates to leverage the platform to strengthen partnerships and champion new route development, noting that Botswanaโ€™s approach is anchored in transparency, data-driven decision-making, and proactive engagement.

In a keynote fireside chat with AviaDev Founder, Jon Howell, His Honour Ndaba Gaolathe offered a compelling perspective on Botswanaโ€™s geographic positioning and long-term vision for aviation and investment. Challenging conventional perceptions, he remarked, โ€œYou may think of us as landlocked, but we say weโ€™re land-linked.โ€ This statement underscored Botswanaโ€™s strategic ambition to position itself as a central hub for trade, tourism, and aviation within Africa and beyond.
