GPPS MARKS WORLD HYPERTENSION AWARENESS DAY WITH HEALTH PRESENTATION AND SCREENINGS
Today, GPPS hosted a World Hypertension Awareness presentation facilitated by representatives from Circle Point Clinic, following an invitation by the SHE Office. The session aimed to educate staff on hypertension and the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring and comprehensive lifestyle adjustments.
Delivering the welcome remarks, Principal Printing officer II Ms Malebogo Setimela encouraged staff to take hypertension seriously, describing it as a silent disease that can gradually affect one’s health if not properly managed. She emphasized the importance of following medical advice and maintaining regular check-ups.
Presenting on behalf of Circle Point Clinic, Health Care Assistant Ms Rejoice Lesatle highlighted the importance of health promotion and disease prevention. She explained the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure, which are the two measurements used to determine blood pressure levels.
Staff were also taken through common risk factors associated with hypertension, including excessive salt intake, smoking, and alcohol abuse. She further outlined some of the warning signs and symptoms such as severe headaches, chest pains, and vision problems. She encouraged staff to adopt healthier lifestyles through balanced diets, regular exercise, and routine health screenings.
In closing, Ms Lesatle left staff with important take-home messages: “Know your numbers, learn to control your blood pressure, and support colleagues in healthy living.” Health screenings were also conducted after the presentation.
